Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Same Issues here, worked perfect on March 8th, stopped working March 9th with excacle the same authenticate issue.
Please help

Changez la date de votre téléphone au 7 mars. Ne pas réinitialiser le chromecast sinon il faut attendre le correctif.

A little update every hour would be a minimum after making such a big mistake.

Hi all, I have nothing to do with Chromecast. And I am in the some boat as you all are with it not working and have no fixes what so ever. Google nest said they were going to look into Its been 24 hrs, and they haven’t updated the community yet on a fix, it’s very frustrating and I use mine for everything, if it is the just the certificates been outdated surely that an easy one to fix, keeping figure crossed for a speedy solution 😁

Hello

My two Chromecast devices stopped working yesterday. I have reinstalled all devices i my Home and reconnected to hubs and routers but I cant reconnect to my Chromecast devices

Worldwide problem. Since you factory reset (google posted to not factory reset, 24 hours after the problem started and to just wait for a fix from them) you can reconnect by setting your phone's date to a date before march 9th (march 8th or previous) then normal setup, then once connected reset to the correct date. You still won't be able to actually cast before Google fixes the problem though

I've used Chromecast to connect laptop to TV screen for years. Yesterday I couldn't cast tab or screen with msg ' available for specific video sites' showing on laptop where I select cast .Like everyone I rebooted , reset , panicked because couldn't reconnect...set phone date before 8/3 and was able to reconnect ..phew...but obviously not being able to cast still. However ..my question is ..does anyone else have same msg ..?

Just adding another complaint regarding chromecast 2nd gens not working. Way-to-go Google!! Great job on this slip. Please advise of a fix asap.

No consigo conectar chromecast y tras hablar con un técnico me ha dicho que escriba aquí para recibir actualizaciones de la reparación. Espero que sea pronto. Ya tardan demasiado.

"Don't factory reset"!  But that's exactly what your trouble shooting guides say to do.  Do better google.

Still waiting for Google to fix the problem.  It's not connecting and I'm getting the message that Google can't authenicate my Chromcast! This is going on since 2 days already! Please 🙏 help!

J ai cru comprendre à un problème technique Google SSL depuis le 8 Mars qui fait que les chromecast n accèdent plus à internet. Au 7 ça devrait marcher j ai mis le 1er pour prendre de la marge.. Et j ai réussi a les reconnecter.. Il faut attendre une mise à jour qui est sencé arriver rapidement

Al cambiar  mi tv  de habitación  sin  realizar ningún cambio ni en la tv ni en el chrome,   de pronto dejo de funcionar, por légica  intente solucionarlo y al final como se hace en todos los casos  empiezas  de nuevo lo  reestableces valores de fabrica y te lo configuras  como tu quieras.  Harto me decís  que no tendría  que haber restablecido los valores de  fabrica.   Eso me suena a escusa para nos demos   por   amortizados.  es decir la culpa es  tuya por seguir  las indicaciones  lógicas  de cualquier técnico para  cualquier  equipo.  Excepto para vosotros.   Esto tiene solución lo que pasa es que  no tenéis ganas   y dentro de poco mandareis ofertas de Chormecast  de ultima generación   y a facturar.

ormai da giorni non riesco a collegarmi a Chromecast. Vedo solo ora che c'è un problema a causa di un certificato SSL scaduto.

Ci sono informazioni sulle tempistiche di risoluzione?

Anche io. Spero risolvano presto.

Anche io ho lo stesso problema da 2 giorni. Pensavo avessero combinato qualcosa i bambini! Non c' è soluzione?

Bump everyone still here. Did a factory reset when I didn't know was the certificate. Today I could only let the chromecast connect with my phone setting an old date (before 9 march).
