Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

And if we already factory reset b.c this has always been the first step in troubleshooting issues with gen2?

This is not acceptable Google, AI responses and no information...

I am one of those. Please contact me as soon as possible. Or I Will look for a different model to solve this

I removed my device from Google Home. I can't add it back again. How will I know when a fix has been done and what to do? Will I get an email or text? How long will the fix take?

Mude a data de seu telefone para antes do dia 9 de março, dia 7 por exemplo. Isso fará com que consiga sair do reset de fábrica mas ainda assim não vai conseguir transmitir a tela

I have three of the audio devices but won't move forward on anything because I am sceptical as to whether we'll get a fix this side of Christmas. I truly and say again I truly hope I am very wrong and it is actually being fixed and will have a resolution soon rather than 2027. 

I have noted that The pixel 9 has dropped in price again plus there's a whole interesting idea on discounts on Chromecast devices the newer ones. 

I'd have absolute rocks in my brains which isn't far off anyway but who in their right mind would buy something when it's broken? 

 

Devices need an email address, you could send a mail to explain what is happened, and happening, instead leaving people loosing time trying to reconnect devices and to contact you!!!

It'a shame! Im having same problem. My chromecast will not work , keeps saying Unable to authenticate. How much longer until problem will be fixed?

You are a world wide company - reaching out to the whole world. It should not take more than a day to fix this. It is really bad costumer service you are in the midst of. Not doing an official note in medias, Facebook or X. So we didn't have to roam the darkest web to find out what is going on. Meanwhile you are taking forever to fix it! 

worst. they put you not with support but in an empty community room.with us, other customers LOL

You are experiencing Google Customer Support at its finest. I gave up after two years trying to buy an extra mounting ring for my Google Nest fire alarm!!! They don't even have a phone number... at least you can ring Microsoft !

 

First rule of your troubleshooting guide : factory reset your device 🙄

What happens to the ones that factory reset? Will they br able to restart the device once the fix is available?

Dear Support Team,

Since last Sunday, I have been experiencing issues with my Chromecast, rendering it unusable. I was informed by support that the issue would be resolved within 48 hours; however, I have not received any updates so far.

At the time, I performed a Factory Reset, as there was no prior notice indicating that this should not be done. I would appreciate a response regarding when the issue will be resolved and what steps I should follow to make the device work properly again.

I look forward to your prompt response.

Chromecast Gen2 sales are estimated to be in the tens of millions. Going to be a lot of notifications in my Inbox by the end of the week !

I had 720 this morning 😕

I factory reset before this info came to light. I will be very interested in a fix for this as other streaming devices don't do what this does.

I first consulted the help via the Google Home app. There I was advised to reset the Chromecast to factory settings. After further Googling I ended up on this site. It's nice to read here that it's a global problem, but I keep reading that you shouldn't do that, too late. In the follow-up message from Google I also read that it's possible that the Chromecast can't be started at all after resetting to factory settings. That would be really bizarre Hopefully there will be a solution soon. And I can use my Chromecast again..

So when will this fix be available ? I now have 2 not able to authenticate devices .... 

I did a reboot of my device because i didn't knew that there was a problem with the device, Can you inform me what to next if the problem is fixed please?

How many days it will take. Atleast give any update. Use help of AI. Take quantum chip help. Sundhar Pichai. Please help here.
