Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance. 

Thanks again for your patience while we worked to resolve this issue!

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Hey everyone, thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. Here’s the latest:

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your patience in the meantime.

No aclaran que pasó, no dan una solución y lo único que hacen es sembrar más dudas; si ésto fuera de parte de la tecnología China dirían que es esperable, da pena el mal trato a los usuarios que PAGAMOS éste artefacto que ahora resulta absolutamente inútil. Es a las claras una estafa

con telefono Android, imposta la data al 7 Marzo, aggiungi dispositivo -> chromecast . Così potrai connetterlo ad internet ma non potrai comunque effettuare il casting

Fast jeder hat bereits ein Reset gemacht weil Google ja erst 24 Stunden nach Abschaltung reagiert hat!!!! 

Ich denke auch ihr könntet langsam vorwärts machen mit der Behebung des Problems.

Audio hab ich bereits auf nicht Google Gerät umgestellt ohne Google Home installation. 

Morgen kommt Post aus China mit gerät für straming ohne Google System. Ich ersetze alle Geräte von Google inkl. Android Handy.

Google hat zu viel Macht !!! Wozu das führt sieht man ja.

Con la demora que tuvieron en informar la situación la mayoría de los usuarios ya habíamos reestablecido el dispositivo a la configuración de fábrica ya que era una de las posibilidades que indicaban en su web para cuando no funcionaba chromecast. Esperamos que lo resuelvan!

Can you please give us a timeline of when the issue will be fixed? It is obvious that majority of the users have tried to fix the issue by using factory reset option as google help suggests for a factory reset.

I'm sure no one will be able to connect and set up Chromecast again using the Home App.

You advised not to reset to factory settings, which I have already done. You said not to worry because you will provide instructions for those who have already done it like me. So, I guess I will have to wait longer than others. Is it possible to understand why it suddenly stopped working? Did you install firmware without first verifying that everything was working? Thank you

Please please please! Activen una url donde inscribirnos quienes reseteamos de fábrica nuestro Chromecast creyendo que el problema era nuestro. Así nos llegan las instrucciones de cómo volver a setear el producto!

Manualmente, pon en tu telefono una fecha anterior al 8 de marzo de 2025.

 

Luego abres google home e instalas el chromecast. 

 

No vas a poder transmitir videos pero al menos vas a ver la pantalla con las imágenes, hasta que google actualice el fallo en los dispositivos.

Y después volvés a la hora actual del teléfono

Soy de México, Hasta ahora estoy viendo que hay un problema, yo ya lo reestablecí el Chromecast de fábrica y no puedo configurarlo, ojalá nos den solución pronto y no tengamos problema para volver a hacerlo funcionar.

Is it still not fixed?? I was told 4 days ago it would come back on in about 10 hours or so, and it looks like it still hasn’t from this community group conversation thing. 😂🤣

Oh No!!!  I already tried the Factory Reset!!!...   duh!!  Please Fix!  The original Chromecast Audio is one of the greatest products EVER!!
