Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Le souci c'est que le bug a été connu bien des heures plus tard avant qu'on sache qu'il ne fallait pas réinitialiser ce qui fait que beaucoup d'entre nous avons suivi l'aide sur le site qui conseillait en dernier recours de réinitialiser.

Would this be relevant to this issue  please?

 new TCL tv. When setting up google tv it says my correct password is incorrect.  When I choose  alternate login for Google it brings up 2 previously removed pH numbers and won't let me use the current verified pH number. Ii have changed google password, checked firmware (auto update) and turned tv off and on again. Logged onto goggle account with old ipad no problem. Going GG insane

i can't believe google still hasn't fixed the chromecast problem. it's been 4 days and thousands of people have been out of service. we should sue google

If you've already reset your Chromecast, just set your phone's date back in time to March 8th, then try setting it up. It should at least get it back online so you'll get the fix when it comes out.

Confirmed fix if you factory reset your device. Manually set the date on your mobile device to any date before march 8. Once set you should be able to pair your Chromecast. 

How do you do that,  I can connect if connect my smartphone as it Chromecast is a network.  Then it goes off and I cannot get access to the device, is there another utility I can use rather than google home?

Debería haber demanda contra Google,por su negligencia nunca informó al usuario sobre la caducidad de los certificados y los daños que han ocasionado al ni siquiera dar respuesta oportuna a la problematica

According to several blogs, they say they have already started rolling out the update, but they haven't said anything about how long it will take to arrive. The problem is that the 9th is the case.

This is it I’m done with Google products the Chromcast was my last Google product I will go with Roku or Apple TV. They probably are push some kind of update. I would not be surprised if they are trying to push Google TV’s.

I found this URL performing a search on the internet:
The news post URL below is reporting that a 10 year certificate is causing device authentication issues.  Google is not reporting what the issue is exactly, but the article says a post to reddit a person was able to chase down the "certificate" chain record (Apparently the reddit poster had access to software tools to access the devices OS memory, be it some EEPROM or other kind of non-volatile memory)   The most curious thing is the date 3/9/2025, that is when my gen 2 device stopped working.

Google falhou grandão sobre essa instabilidade . 

Tenho tv das antigas , que nao é Smartv e hoje perdemos a funcionalidade de um item que me faz falta no dia a dia . 

Espero que façam funcionar novamente . Pois um erro do Google , vai me custar caro , tanto pra uma tv ou um novo aparelho , que certamente será lançado recentemente ou já deve ter algo novo . E pra forçar a compra fazem o outro parar de funcionar .

It appears in the journal thay you  have  updated the firmware but it doesn't happen. The Chromecast is connected to the internet and has not been reset. It's from the second generation. but it doesn't work. you can clarify?

I factory reset it during troubleshooting but was able to reset the device by changing my phone day and time back before march 9th.
