Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Hey everyone, thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. Here’s the latest:

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Ya lo restableci y no se arreglo el problema porsupuesto, no tenía la información de que era global el problema y que no se debía restablecer de fabrica. Qué debo hacer ahora?

Confirmed fix if you factory reset your device. Manually set the date on your mobile device to any date before march 8. Once set you should be able to pair your Chromecast. 

can't manually change the date on iphone, it's greyed out

You have to disable automatic date/time setting.

When will this be fixed? now into day 5 of no chromecast, already factory re set one device as this is the normal go to fix having not known there was a worldwide error!

Can you Please advise How will you notify me when the issue is fixed on the Chromrcast gen 2? . I cant stream anything and havent been able to wstch any of my favourite shows since last Monday. Please please reply to my email address if possible on # as soon as possible

Thank you for officially letting us know that you will be fixing the issue. It would have been better if you issued a "don't factory reset and wait for a fix" announcement sooner though. I was patient enough to not take actions that don't guarantee results, but there are quite a lot of people out there who inexplicably listened to the (stupid) answers of your first line of support to factory reset their devices and some others who more inexplicably threw them away and bought new ones 😄

Também acho que deveriam então ter colocado um anuncio na tela. Estou chateada com isso...

1) cambia la fecha de tu celular (anterior al 9/3/25)

2) desde la app Home finaliza la instalación 

3) instala Activity manager, ve a la opción laucher, luego a "action" pega lo siguiente: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction, luego dale a la "palomita"

4) activa la opción omitir certificado 

5) ya podés usar tu Chromecast

1) Change your phone's date (before 9/3/25) 

2) Complete the installation from the Home app 

3) Install Activity Manager, go to the Launcher option, then to "Action," paste the following: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction, then click the "check" button 

4) Enable the Bypass Certificate option 

5) You're now ready to use your Chromecast

Your support information was to factory reset. Sure, now it's changed but you should have been onto it much more quickly rather than your standard responses staying online. So, we did what you said and suddenly it was wrong. 😢

En un diario informativo digital salió un comunicado sobre la falla y que ya lo habían solucionado en el día de hoy, pero puras mentiras, traté de transmitir y nada, la pantalla solamente muestra lindos paisajes, aunque Google home ya subió una actualización en su app, SOLUCIONEN!!!!!
