Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Ya restableci mi chromecast a configuración de fábrica..  ahora que hago?

Due to the minimal responses/updates about an estimated time fix I have just purchased Roku from Amazon to arrive around 10 AM tomorrow. Done waiting. 

  • I factory reset my device also, but I found the way to get it back the way it was, but it still doesn’t connect to the TV. What I did is on my iPhone I went to settings, general, time and date, I changed the date of my phone back to March 7, 2025 before the certificate expired. I set the chrome cast up and the usual manner and everything was set back in place. But it still doesn’t connect to the TV but at least it’s ready for when the fix is in place 

Now then I saw this notices. Where can I get the recommended actions to reset up my already factory resets device?

Its already thursday and this **bleep** still wont work. Are you really expecting us to ever buy a google product again???

What's the timeframe we did reset the device and now its impossible to set it back up.

What’s the latest update? When is this going to be fixed!!!

Ok it’s been a few days now, and everyone around the world I assume have been very patient. So Are we getting the fix for the chrome casts or are you just leaving us hanging here ? and playing with everyone’s mental state? If it’s not going to get fixed just tell us. The elderly and fragile ppl are expecting some sort of result!  

This is planned obsolescence. I will not buy another Google product ever again.

Mi chromecast 2 no se restableció, y esta conectado al wifi, me dice la hora y cambian las pantallas de fondo, pero no aparece la casa a ka que wsta asociada, también hasta hace un rato aparecía la temperatura pero ahora no, pero sigue conectada al wifi, y en google home me aparece son conexión, lo están solucionando, como sabremos la respuesta, hagan un canje, nosotros entregamos lis chromecas de 2a generación y ud nos dan uno más moderno, sería un buen arreglo, o por lo menos una quita en el precio por provocarnos este inconveniente.

i have done Factory Reset of my device.  please let us know how to fix it.. its been more than 5 days since the issue occurred. is it the way GOOGLE does for their customer. its so pathetic. very annoying.

I spend hours resetting 3 chromecast audios last weekend.  Brutal.  Do better!

Please fix asap, don’t understand why it’s taking so long if it’s just an expired certificate, just update the expiration date. Not happy google.

Reddit… yeah, solid source, bro… that site is just a bunch of losers hopped up on crazy pills. 

I bet you didn't even read the extensive information the person very kindly posted on reddit. And since you don't trust it or anyone for that matter, you can research yourself how a certificate works and deduce why the fix will take time. But I suppose being ignorant, rude and cowardly yelling from far away, is both not being a loser and really constructive for everyone 🤷🙄

If you don't want to understand or learn anything, that's your prerogative, but telling off another member for trying to be helpful is just wrong!
