Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

In English:
1) Change your phone's date (before 9/3/25) 

2) Complete the installation from the Home app 

3) Install Activity Manager, go to the Launcher option, then to "Action," paste the following: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction, then click the "check" button 

4) Enable the Bypass Certificate option 

5) You're now ready to use your Chromecast

1) cambia la fecha de tu celular (anterior al 9/3/25)

2) desde la app Home finaliza la instalación 

3) instala Activity manager, ve a la opción laucher, luego a "action" pega lo siguiente: com.google.android.gms.cast.settings.CastSettingsCollapsingDebugAction, luego dale a la "palomita"

4) activa la opción omitir certificado 

5) ya podés usar tu Chromecast

As a work-around, I've found that configuring the chromecast  device as an Open Home (DLNA) renderer with bubbleupnp allows you to cast to the device as a DLNA renderer.

I went out and bought a Wi-Fi capable TV and now I don't need Chromecast anymore. I'm done waiting. Five days is too long to wait.

Hola, estoy teniendo problemas con mi cromcast.  Lo e restaurado de fabrica porque hace varios dias vengo sin poder usarlo y arroja un msj qué no se logra la autentificacion. Como puedo solucionar?

  • También restablecí mi dispositivo a la configuración de fábrica, pero encontré la manera de dejarlo como estaba, pero sigue sin conectarse al televisor. Lo que hice fue ir a Ajustes, General, Hora y Fecha en mi iPhone y cambiar la fecha al 7 de marzo de 2025, antes de que caducara el certificado. Configuré Chromecast como siempre y todo volvió a la configuración original. Sigue sin conectarse al televisor, pero al menos está listo para cuando se implemente la solución. 

Vanessa, vou tentar. Vamos aos passos, 1 mudo a data do telefone?abro o app home e  configuro o equipamento sem conecta-lo a TV?

C'mon Google. My devices have been down since Monday afternoon. It's now Wednesday night. How bad was the hack? And what personal  information was stolen?

Although I was able to bring back my devices by using an android tablet with the date tweaked to  March the 1st, all of the devices are offline... aaaaaand then also I'm noticing that my chrome is not picking up the broadcast icon while on youtube when I have a LG 65" TV that has the ability to pick up broadcasts... maybe related, maybe not... any idea on E.T. for the fix?

Last Monday I brought a Roku device on Amazon, it will come from Amazon USA to Mexico tomorrow, I think that 4 days is enough to wait. I lost the hope to use again Chromecast, I guest that google wants to sell new products but if they can not fix this right now we should not buy another google tv device.
