Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

I need this to be fixed keep telling me internet may disconnect  and it keep disconnecting me !!  I reset the devise ! This is absurd

No!!  Si aun sigues conectado con wifi, no lo hagas, te aparece la pantalla con la hora, y los diferentes fondos? No lovreinicies espera ña actualización

I already reset my Chromecast because I didn't see the information until today, according to what they indicate I shouldn't reset it, but in my case that I already did it, what can I do to solve the problem?

I can confirm that the workarounds posted on Reddit and elsewhere will indeed restore Gen2 casting from Android devices and Chrome browser (sorry, iPhone users). I had mine back up 'n running by Monday morning. Not perfect, but for those who are impatient (and reasonably tech-savvy), it's a viable option until Google issues a proper security certificate fix.

I did it, but only made my Chromecast setup, but I can't still cast anything from any app. Didn't the firmware update released already? 

Did you make sure to revert your phone's date/time setting to Auto?

I also did the factory reset as part of troubleshooting. Please tell us that there is a way to fix them.

Puedes volver a configurar cambiando la fecha del celular con el cual configuras y transmite contenidos al chromecast: cambia la fecha en tu celular al 7 de marzo, luego vuelves a realizar los pasos que normalmente harías para configurarlo, luego déjalo así nomas, hasta que los inoperantes responsables de todo este problema nos envíen nuevas instrucciones, por lo pronto habrás logrado configurar tu chromcast y verás los lindos paisajes de G. home. 

 

 

 

Aun así luego de hacer esto, chequea en la app de G. home la última actualización, sabrá Dios que nuevo parche habrán inventado tratando de arreglar el cagadon que hicieron.

At the time I noticed that the Chromecast wasn't casting, I performed a Factory reset followed by resetting the modem. Later I realized that this was an issue with the Chromecast unit. I will be needing help with this please.

Hi there 👋, I already reset my Chromecast 😭

It's the most common thing to do when something don't work although I use this device every day to work. Please sent me some information when this issue is fixed. Thanks again!
