How will I know when my Chromecast has received the update?

It won't notify you directly but if you happen to catch it updating on screen that is one way, unfortunately there's no way to check for updates with Gen 2, But they did inform everyone that they should be pushed out as long as you can keep your Chromecast on for the duration of the next few days

Well still screwed with not being able to connect either of mine from factory reset 😞

I can't even get my back to connected 😪

Ahahahahah, povera ☹️! Io con la testa....... Non ne posso più 🤬

I did it. Thanks. Now let's wait.

Legend ! I’m up and running , thanks champ

So I changed the date and I was finally able to connect the device but as you said I still can’t cast nothing. Any idea on how long it will take to actually start casting again??

You still need to receive the firmware update from Google to fix the original problem. Apparently, it may take as long as several days for the update to hit your Chromecast.

Si pudiste activar si lo habias reiniciado de fabrica. Actualiza a la fecha de joy nuevamente y se hace la magia. Yonya pude conectar mi chromecast reiniciado de fabrica.

**Google REALLY should pin this information to the top of this page.**

Thanks for your info johnnyzero2

Deu certo aqui, obrigado!!

Great! If I keep Chromecast ON I have more chances of getting earlier the update, right?

Yes, keep it powered on, i.e.: the power cord connected, and connected to your Wi-Fi network. Doesn't matter if your TV is on or not.

That’s what they wrote .

Its works again. Thank you so much💪💪🫵

Como lo haz logrado?

Any suggestions what to do if you can't temporarily change the date on your phone back to before March 8?

From what I understand, some cell phone carriers lock down that setting on their phones, especially iPhones.  If that's the case for you, then one solution might be to borrow somebody's smartphone or tablet and use that to re-setup your Chromecast. That's the best I can come up with.

I've done this and actually heard the sound when I was setting up. And it's not grayed out. When trying to cast a song from YouTube Music, the CCA shows up in my options (with a spinning throbber above it), but the music keeps playing out of my phone when I tap on it. Same as what happened when I first noticed a problem. Under Device Information on Home, there's a blue exclamation point telling me that some settings are only available when my mobile device and my Living Room Speaker (CCA) are connected to the same network. But they are connected to the same network. I might conclude that I haven't received the update yet, but my situation doesn't match what you said it would. So I don't know what to think. Any help appreciated.

I'm betting you haven't received the firmware update yet. Supposedly only a very small percentage of users have received it so far. I would give it a few more days and see if things sort themselves out. As long as your CCA is powered up and connected to wi-fi/internet, it will receive the firmware update.

Thanks for trying to help. Issue now is that although it said the CCA was connected, when I switched back to automated time (actual date), it was nowhere to be found. So I switched back to manual time (March 7) and tried again. Btw, my phone does not find the CCA unless I reset the CCA. (I've tried many times now, and I have to reset it each time.) What has happened several times now is that I get through the whole process except at the very end it says something about Google Cast needing a permission or something I'm settings, and when I try to give it that permission, nothing happens and the screen disappears and  I'm back to square one with nothing connected. Several times I've tried to take a screenshot of this Google Cast request (which I don't really understand), but the screenshots fail, just as the setup fails. Really weird and annoying. The one time I didn't run into this issue was the time I described at the beginning. It seemed everything was ok, but after I changed time/date to automatic, my CCA was no longer connected. And not just offline, but not shown in Home at all. So I don't know what to do. Everything is failing and I'm losing it.

Como saber si esta reiniciado?

Cambie fecha y nada cambio. Podrás dar indicaciones? Gracias

Re-read the instructions and follow them carefully. I promise you it works.

Where did you found instruktions?

hi

still not working for me even if i already change the date to march 7

I factory reset my Chromecast device, so it still wasn't working after Google provided the first fix. What I did was the following (and now I can use it and watch movies on my TV):

-I changed the date on my tablet (it also works with my phone) to the day before the outage started. I set the date to Saturday, March 8, 2025 .

-I factory reset my Chromecast (again) and opened the Google Home app to go through the process of adding the device . Following these two steps will update the Chromecast to the version it had before the global issue occurred, so you'll be able to add the device to your phone and tablet (but we're not done yet).

-Once the Chromecast has successfully connected to a Wi-Fi network, it will begin updating . I waited for it to reach 100%, but then it tried to update again. I closed the Google Home app and reopened it. I noticed the device was added, but I still couldn't connect to it (as if I had gone back to Sunday, March 9th).

-So I unplugged the Chromecast (just to turn it off) , even though it was still trying to update (I unplugged it when it was about 36% complete).

-I changed the date on my tablet (or phone) back to the current day, and then plugged the Chromecast back in to turn it on . As far as I know, the device will update to the latest version automatically when it reconnects to a Wi-Fi network. This update is the one Google released to fix the issue that caused all the connection errors worldwide on Sunday, March 9th.

-Now you can be HAPPY and use your Chromecast device normally again , stream movies or series on your TV and rest from the stress of the week.

You need to go back on your phone on settings and set on AUTOMATIC and then go back to your Google Home app and try to tap on your chromecast you usually use.

  • 1. First, go to settings on your phone.
  • 2. In settings, go in and REMOVE automatic clock, and change the date manually to March 1.
  • 3. Go to the "Google Home" app on your phone, and try to go to the one you usually use, what happens then is that your chromecast starts downloading new updates, and it restarts, when it's done you can go back to settings and change to today's date and don't forget to set it back to AUTOMATIC.
  • 4. Now you can go into the Google Home app and you can tap on the chromecast user that you usually use, then it should be ready for use. Good luck!

Thanks, it's working now 🙂

How did it work, did you just keep it ON ?

I turned mine on this morning and it automatically downloaded an update and then worked fine. My other device that I tried to "fix" by doing a factory reset is sadly still broken 😞

What did u update? The app or device how to update the device??

For the one that you did a factory reset on, just do this and it will then be able to receive the firmware update:

Perdón tengo dos dispositivos uno lo reinicie y el otro no el que reinicie lo volví a conectar con este método pero el otro que no reinice ya funciona y el otro no será que si se conecto a internet como puedo saberlo?

This is the solution for an problem to set back the date of my iPhone to 7 march 😳 really

Great , this worked thank you.

What worked. Can you please explain
