If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Bonjour effectivement j'ai réinitialisé le Chromecast d'usine car je savais pas ce qu'il ce passé. Maintenant j'attends avec impatience car sans télé c'est pas possible. Je regarde sur mon téléphone depuis la panne. J'espère que cela va vite être réparé merci cordialement

Please advise a timeline, particularly for those in .au.

My Chromecast and Speaker are both still borked and I am unable to connect to them.

Part of the problem is that the Speaker was not connected to power, and the Chromcast is powered from the TV that it is connected to, but they have both been powered up independently all day.

also einer meiner 5 Chromcast Audio funktioniert wieder.

Dieser wurde NICHT zurück gesetzt hing also ununterbrochen am Netz.

Einen zurück gesetzten konnte ich wieder in das Netz bringen in dem ich das Datum am Handy auf dem 06.03.2025 gestellt habe.

Dieser ist jedoch jetzt auch Offline und werde mal abwarten ob dieser dann auch wieder funktioniert.

Immerhin ist er jetzt erstmal wieder im Netz 😉

Vous dites qu'il ne faut pas réinitialiser, mais c'est trop tard pour beaucoup d'entre nous. Car c'est votre support qui nous indique de le faire lorsqu'on rencontre un problème de connexion. Durant tous ces essais infructueux de ma part de le faire fonctionner, il n'y avait aucune annonce de votre part indiquant que le problème venait de vous. Personnellement j'ai découvert le problème que mardi 11 mars dans un article du magasine Capital.

Vous nous annoncez que vous allez régler très vite le problème mais que pour ceux qui ont réinitialisé cela sera plus long voir même impossible et ceux là devront se tourner vers une nouvelle version !!! Je ne vois pas pourquoi je paierai pour un autre appareil plus onéreux alors que le problème vient de vous. Peut-être que vous pourriez offrir un nouvel appareil à ceux qui ne pourront pas bénéficier de la réparation.

The issue can be resolved by manipulating the system date of the mobile device, setting it to a date prior to March 8th. Subsequently, data connectivity should be enabled, which will automatically trigger the download of the latest software update. - NunzioTech

Thank you for providing information (a little late). As with electric cars, will individual owners of Chromecast devices be notified when update is done, or should I keep trying as I have done several times a day?

My Chromecast is one of the first ones to come out , I have never received any updates on this device but never had any issues till now. I uninstalled home app then reinstalled along with deleting device and then tried to set up again but continue to receive message that my device can not be authenticated. Can you please tell me how to get it to work again 

We definitely should receive some kinda compensation for not being able to view or tvs.. this is ridiculous

Nothing as yet, this sucks, I dont want to go buy another device and keep paying and paying for more scheduled opulecent crap. I have this attached to my bedroom TV so I have something to watch in bed before sleep and just lie and relax. I pay you already, so why do you need to keep bleeding your customers?

I changed the date back and was able to set it up, but I can't use it. Will it become usable if I just wait like this? I've already set up the WiFi.

Yes, it should be once the fix or the new certificate for the chromecast device is released by Google.

I’m from Denmark and my Chromecast Audio is back igen. I did'nt make a reset or anything.
Now it is just back and playing igen.

Continuo aguardando. A mensagem é de que "não foi possível autenticar o Chromecast."

1. Obviouslly, the first time I saw the chromecast didnt answer, I did a reset in my device. What I have to do now???!

2. “which will be completed over the next few days”, in a few days? 5days. You have to retorn us this interruption of our service.

I reset my Chromecast 2nd generation when it became issue on the 9th of March 2025, and now it is not working. Please send instructions asap

I really hope you guys find a way for us to reboot our Chrome devices soon. I'm pretty disappointed that Google had this massive oversight to begin with.

This is not good, I have 3 devices that are not working, the App does not see devices to add to group? Disappointed to say the least....

My device is now shown as 'offline' in my Google Home app. Do I need to do something (if so: what?) to bring it online to receive the update? Should I restart? Or not?

and how to update if it does not see the Internet? Or does it just display that the status is offline?

If the issue keeps us from connecting to wifi, how the **bleep** are we supposed to get the **bleep**ing update? There needs to be another way to update the firmware. And why did this nonsense happen in the first picture? Makes me hate Google because they make you dependent on **bleep** and then pull the plug.

is it possible for you to publish the versions of the rollouts. For chromecast audio, the latest officially available (before the fix) is 1.56.281627.

This is valuable info when watching is device has been updated or not.

I didn’t realise it was a global issue. So I did the factory reset after trying everything else your help centre suggested. The fact there was an issue was not communicated well at all in my opinion
