Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

When you say "Your device must be connected to receive the update.", does that mean we have to leave the TV on and the HDMI port selected all the time, day and night?
If not, how do we get the update? The Home App won't connect to the Chromecast.
My Chromecast devices are currently paging through stock photos, but I would like to watch TV!

Ok , purtroppo ho fatto il reboot del Chromecast ed ora non mi permette una nuova configurazione.

It would've been nice if we had received an email or a message through the app for this.  As I didn't know about it until I already reset one.

Bottom line:

  1. Google f*cked up
  2. Haven't resolved anything yet
  3. They still don't have a timeline for solving their own mistake
  4. Slow replying
  5. There is no official world-wide comment to a world-wide issue
  6. Screw the users/clients

 

You need to hire PR people and devs.

The first ones to help you communicate.

The second one is to avoid screw-ups like this.

I performed a factory reset.

In order to re-set the device I can recommend to change a date of the telephone/tablet before the 10th. It worked for me 🙂

J'ai malheureusement réinitialisé mon Chromecast (2ème génération), j'attends donc votre solution

I didn't factory reset my device, but I did unlink it from my phone and now it won't link anymore. Will my update still be automatic? Or will I need to follow the next steps to come?

Still not working, when will it be fixed?! 

Avevo fatto un ripristino, e mi sono trovato chromcast bloccato, poi ho modificato la data del mio smartphone prima del 9 marzo e sono riuscito a ristabilire la connessione, vedo gli sfondi carosello sulla tv anche se ancora non riesco a riprodurre in straming.... Attendo il roll out del fix....

And what if my devices won't connect to my wifi network? Should I factory reset them? The person I chatted with to get help was not helpful at all so maybe someone here can help.
