Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance. 

Thanks again for your patience while we worked to resolve this issue!

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

 i did the same a factory reset and i face error, we couldn't authenticate your chrome device, could you suggest if you come across this problem

Não estou conseguindo fazer a instalação do meu Chromecast minas já está instalado e do nada parou e agora eu não consigo instalar já fiz a restauração de fábrica e agora não consigo entrar e fazer qualquer tipo instalação

Oie! O Chromecast de geral tá assim. Deu algum problema de certificação digital no Google. Eles pedem pra não resetar. Resetei e agora tô esperando uma solução. Mas fica tranquilo porque não é só o seu. Simplesmente quase todos os chromes do mundo pararam.

Hola gente. Yo fui de las que hizo reinicio de fábrica pensando que era problema de mi equipo. Tomé la sugerencia de aquí del foro, cambié la fecha de mi teléfono al 7/03 y pude volver a conectarlo, pero sigo sin poder enviar contenido. La información que circula es que  Google solucionó el problema, pero yo estoy como el primer día. ¿Alguien más en mi situación?

Por las dudas cada cierto tiempo hagan eso, de apagarlo y prenderlo a ver si tienen suerte.

Hola yo también hice lo del cambio de hora y a tardado pero al final se actualizo y reinicio Chromecast y me vuelve a funcionar

Hola. Hice lo mismo, reseteo de fábrica cuando hubo el fallo y luego lo configuré cambiando la fecha del móvil. Esta mañana lo he reiniciado y ha saltado la actualización pero se quedó al 0% y al final indicó problema de red. No ha vuelto a saltar. El Chromecast tiene conexión a internet porque aparecen los fondos de las fotos de Google y es visible desde los equipos, pero no permite conectar por certificado. Ahora ya dudo que se pueda actualizar.

Lo mismo que ustedes, siempre que un dispositivo falla aconsejan restablecer, Google se avivó Bien tarde y dijo que no lo reiniciemos cuando la mayoría lo izo, y ahora qué? Ni ellos lo saben,que esperemos cuanto??

Buenas tardes. Hice lo que mencionaste. Puse una fecha anterior al 9 de marzo y me empezó a configurar el Chromecast. Una vez hecho esto volví a actualizar la fecha del celular y pude conectarme y transmitir nuevamente 😃😃

It’s been almost a week since the problem started but so far there is no solution 

Did you read the status update pinned at the top of this page? Google started rolling out a firmware update fix yesterday.

If you are one of the many who have already done a factory reset, you'll need to do this procedure in order to receive the update:

Sem perceber antes de que fosse avisado restaurei meu Chromecast 2 para padrões de fabrica. E agora estou a espera de um "milagre", será que vou conseguir fazer ele funcionar novamente?

Change the date of your iPhone to 8th March 

set chromecast 

and set date back to today kudos it will start working 

Who do you do that on an iPhone?
