Same here... I have THREE in my house.. One of them started doing this BS a few days ago. Tried everything. NOTHING works... weird thing, when I went to check on it again after leaving it for sometime It was showing the display (the background pictures chromecast shows on the TV) but with a message saying to Restart the display :S. My other 2 work just fine. There is nothing like the chromecast...Google discontinued them on their own. You now have to pay $129 for the upgrade with the new box thing its called Google tv or something

I can't log into now TV app on Google streamer , despite getting it on my app list? Any help?

Modo indignada ON

Ok so a fix is in rollout and the device has to be connected. I removed my Chromecast from the homeapp when it was down and couldn’t install it again until I manually changed the date to prior March 9th. But now it doesn’t show in the google homeapp unless I manually change the date again to March 8th. Will the fix still work? Will my Chromecast update automatically?

DA DOMENICA 9/3/25 IL MIO CHROMECAST NON SI COLLEGA PIU' ALLA TV. HO PROVATO A FARE ANCHE IL RESET DI FABBRICA ED ORA NON SI RIESCE PIU' NEANCHE A CONNETTERE AL WI-FI. STO USANDO PER LA CONFIGURAZIONE GOOGLE HOME, MA NON RIESCE A STABILIRE LA CONNESSIONE AL DISPOSITIVO PER CUI NON VA A BUON FINE. PER FAVORE AIUTATEMI. GRAZIE

Ora tutto funziona nuovamente.

Grazie mille ha funzionato!!!!
03-11-2025 12:01 PM
Seems pretty impossible that this was a "mistake or oversight" You have some of the world's smarted software engineers working for you, and not a single one remembered to re-new a certificate?? That's like saying... Sorry, we forgot to renew our domain name, and the website is gone. Get your **bleep** together, before I dump all 30 devices and switch to Alexa !!! I'm tired of this **bleep**.
03-11-2025 12:09 PM - edited 03-11-2025 12:19 PM
yeah for real google is stupid as **bleep** they even had like 10 years before the certificate could expire a normal firmware update could have prevented all this **bleep**

It's a problem that should have never happened, but for some reason a multibillion-dollar company like Google forgot to renew a certificate, so all Chromecasts are **bleep**ed. The only thing you can do is wait the factory reset may have complicated a future fix tho.

Worldwide problem. Since you factory reset (google posted to not factory reset, 24 hours after the problem started and to just wait for a fix from them) you can reconnect by setting your phone's date to a date before march 9th (march 8th or previous) then normal setup, then once connected reset to the correct date. You still won't be able to actually cast before Google fixes the problem though
03-11-2025 11:29 AM
Hands up if you think Google "bricked" the 2nd gen Chromecasts on purpose?
I bet there's someone high up watching sales of the current generation increasing and decided not to fix the issue! 🤷🏻♂️🤷🏻♂️

YEP! why keep offering support for old devices. Roll out the new ones that are more expensive. That's capitalism right? 🙂
03-11-2025 08:07 PM
Was kind of thinking this...because the fix is such a hassle. When I originally set up my Chromecast no APP was needed and I could use any device to cast. Do I want to get the next generation though? Not if it requires downloading apps like a firestick. Firestick is cheaper
03-11-2025 04:07 PM
It just stopped working- what is the issue pls
03-11-2025 04:15 PM
Someone forgot to renew the certificate for the firmware in the device, and over 100 million 2nd Gen devices have been offline since Sunday, ours included
03-11-2025 04:17 PM
Or Google is just going to drop support for the first couple gen devices.
03-11-2025 04:44 PM
Is Google drops support for this device. I will remove every Google product I have

iPhone cannot communicate with the device. It worked till several days ago. I removed the device from Home and tried to add it back, but after connecting it to my WiFi it says that my iPhone cannot communicate with it. So it doesn’t show up in my device list. How can I fix this ?
