How long until you give us a fix for those of us who followed Google directions to factory reset? I have to useless  Chromecasts atm.

Ooops I performed a factory reset already (a thousand times, btw)... How will you contact me? When? I'm waiting 🙂

I've reset my Chromecast, which is the standard solution when it doesn't work. Please fix it soon

The work around is to reset your phones' date to earlier than 8 March 2025. Run Google Home and add your device. You should follow all prompts. If you are in an area that Google has rolled out the update, you should see an update progress bar on your TV and the Chromecast will probably power reset twice. Don't forget to reset your phones' date. Open Google Home, see if your device is listed.  Open you Streaming App on your phone and test casting. Goodluck.

I already reseted the device before I knew that was a general problem. It's going be any issues because I reset it?

My chromecast stop working  I did a factory reset and now it keeps saying can't authenticate the chromecast.  so I can't even add the chromecast back in my Google home app. HELP PLEASE

Hello Team, Thank you for the fix. I had performed a factory reset, however, setting the date manually on all the devices I tried connecting to the chromecast from worked. Also, I didn’t turn off the device or the Wi-Fi for the whole day yesterday. Thank you for all the efforts taken on resolution.

For those of us who set the factory date, the solution is to set the date to March 8, 2025 on the phone, go to home(google) and configure the Chromecast v2 for about 10 minutes. When the configuration is finished, the update is installed automatically. I configured the time zone of my country (Bogota, Colombia) at home(google) and then restarted the device by disconnecting it from the power and reconnecting it and the firmware was installed automatically.

Hi,

After trying to set my CC back up mine keeps saying couldn't authenticate your CC device?

This morning, 15th March 2025, around 08:45hrs local time, I got the update here in Srilanka and my Chromecast 2nd Gen is back to normal.

Thank you very much Google. By the way,  I did not factory reset my device.

I not only rebooted my device but clicked forget this device, hoping to re add it to fix the problem. Is there a fox for this?

If you have factory reset your Chromecast, set your phone manually to march 8th and you can set it up like normal. Once it is set up, your device will get the firmware update! Don't forget to change your phone back to the current date afterwards!

I did factory reset and now home is unable to connect to chromecast.  Please help

Another member suggested changing the date on your device.  I changed mine to the 4th March, had also factory reset my device.  I'm now up and running and watching Loki.  Can't find the original message but it worked.

Guys come on! Bricked millions of devices. Hurry up and fix it!!!!!!!

I have one Chromecast which has been affected and one that worked through the week.

But now the one who were affected, works and the other has now problems.

I still can't use my chrome cast. I hope you can fix it soon.

Thanks for the info, however,  is there any timelines by when we can expect the fix where we reset the device to factory settings?

Regards

I had reset the chromecast to factory settings. Google Home could no longer find the chromecast. I set my phone to March 8. Then added the chromecast again with Home. The chromecast automatically updated. After the update everything works properly again : ) Set the phone back to the current date.

Thank you for sorting this.

Chromecast is working! Yesterday I set back the date to 7 March and I just "saw" ny chromecast on line in the Google Home app😁

I do not know how to check the firmware version since I can not add the device to my Google Home App.

The problem continues. I have already rebooted the device, but to no avail.
This really sucks. What to do?

Have you tried to change the date on your mobile phone back before 8th of March?
