Hey folks,
If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.
If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

This is terrible for such a huge company, I've been using my chrome cast for years. And ive always had issues with connectivity. Usually resetting the cast does the trick. However upon looking up on the Web page it says not to factory reset the chrome cast this is annoying because I know can't see a fix for this, alot of upset children. Thanks to Google

Bientôt Dimanche et toujours impossible de lancer Chromecast, bientôt une semaine et pas de solution ? J'ai réinitialisé mon appareil, bien avant que vous ne disiez quoique ce soit, et je suis maintenant après plus de 2 heures devant le même écran où ma connexion internet ne se fait pas sur l'appareil qui de ce fait n'existe toujours pas quand je veux cast depuis Amazon Prime ou YouTube. C'est quand vous voulez....

Here is how it works.
You have to be logged in to your Google account (so Google sees you and can send you the fix)
In the Google home look top right to see which Google account are you logged in

Good evening,
To update the Google Chromecast certificate on devices that have been factory reset after the failure on March 9, 2025, the solution is simple:
1. Change the date on your mobile phone to March 1, 2025.
2. Re-sync, set up, or add the Chromecast to Google Home as usual.
3. Once the Chromecast connects to the WiFi network, the certificate will update automatically, and the device will function correctly.

Prueba de cambiarle la fecha en tu móvil a 7 de Marzo y vuelve a hacer el proceso de configuración del Chromecast.

Possible solution that worked for me despite factory resetting the Chromecast.
1. Change your mobile phone's date to March 1, 2025 manually.
2. Open the Home app and add your Chromecast the same way you did the first time. It will update automatically.
3. Once the update is complete, test that it works. In my case, it worked perfectly.
4. Don't forget to set the current date to the mobile phone you used to set up Chromecast.
I hope this is at least a temporary solution and you can use your device.
