Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Hey everyone, thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. Here’s the latest:

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and appreciate your patience in the meantime.

Hi. It's Sunday and our Chromecast is still showing issue with authentication. I had factory reset it. Now waiting for this issue to be fixed. HEY GOOGLE BE QUICK. THANKS

Read the replies. You can undo the factory reset by changing the date on your phone.

Hi guys it's been over a week without connection to our TVs due to the faulty castor. Is there any update/an anticipated fix time or are providing a replacement castor.

I undid the factory reset with the phone hack to get wifi connecties back. Then chromecast could be seen again by my services (but not yet cast). Just left it plugged in, tried a day later. Works!

otherwise i think you just turn off everything for 30 seconds and turn it back on, and the update will install itself

Continua el arreglo para poder hacer un setup del equipo?   Hasta cuando seguimos con el problema?

.had to make sure youtube didnt start the app on tv, hence cast from tv.

netfllix works fne.

Please fix this asap, and please ensure better quality control and testing for updates that brick an entire product.

Vcs vão avisar os usuários de que forma ? Estou tentando todos os dias a conexão na esperança de que o reparo tenha sido concluído e nada.

I worked it out for myself changing the date back to pre crash but basically same method. All back up and running with the latest firmware installed now.

Resetee mi Chromecast y ya se ha solucionado. Me funcionó poner en mi móvil una fecha anterior al 9 de marzo de 2025, y así pude configurarlo de nuevo. Luego volví a poner la fecha actual en mi móvil. Gracias a quien dio con la solución y lo compartió en este foro

Mude a data do seu dispositivo para 8 de março ou anterior, tente conectar o Chromecast novamente e faça a instalação normalmente.

 

Depois disso, ele vai receber a atualização automaticamente. Quando terminar, basta colocar o seu telefone de volta na data atual. Espero que ajude.
