Of course I did a factory reset... what else can you do with Chromecast2, once it is not working! So... now I have been waiting for the fix for some time. We are watching 90% of the time time TV via Chromecast so ....this sucks big time.
Can you please provide daily updates on this (labelled also with a date) so we see that something is done!
And please also provide exact information HOW IS THE CHROMECAST updated... what connection is basic/necessary. Right now I have TV connected via LAN, is that enough??? Also, some people might not understand that the very connection that is now severed... was their (wifi) internet connection, that they should need to get the Chromecast (2) working once again!? Right?

Any luck with a response? I'm in the same situation as you

Factory reset should be the LAST resort, even if the first line of support says so (they usually don't know anything, they have a list of canned responses, so don't ever take their word for granted). In this case, since the problem is unknown, one should simply wait for a specific answer to the specific problem. Which came after a few days, alongside with the fix 🤷
Since you have factory reset the device, it is not connected itself to a WiFi (the TV does not matter, the device itself connects to the internet via WiFi).
You can try to change the date on your phone to trick the devices to work again bypassing the expired certificate, setup the ChromeCast again and make it part of your home network (aka connect it to wi-fi) and then like Google suggests, just leave it online to receive the update from the internet which will update the firmware and fix the original issue!!

It’s works !!!!
i change the date to 1 match. Then make up date.
i put the good date. And now it works 🤗

Tu Chromecast ahora debería funcionar y podrás volver a enviarle contenidos 😉

Unfortunately I did a factory reset, and I strongly suspect a great part of the users also did it. We are so used to fix problems by reconfiguring the product, that it seems natural to do it. I hope there is a fix for this case and I don't have to throw away the device.
03-16-2025 06:29 AM
Thankfully I was able to resurrect the Chromecast. Just set the date in manual mode to 1st of March, restarted the phone and the Chromecast to be sure everything started with the expected date, and I was able to reconfigure the device. I could see the update taking place, and after it was complete, restored the right date, and everything is working now. Thank you very much for the hints.

I performed the factory reset, now I'm getting the "We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast", please help.

What’s the ETA on the fix if you did a factory reset?

Thank you

What if my Chromecast CAN'T connect properly? I've got two of them with several issues.
- One chromecast was last used using an out-of-my-home wifi and can't find my home wifi netwerk
- The other one is according to Google Home connected as a various device, I can even cast to it but my TV with the source on the right HDMI port stays black.
I'm getting tired of this **bleep** to be honest
03-16-2025 06:13 AM
Is this resolved yet? I did a factory reset can you help please been a week now
03-16-2025 06:15 AM
Buen día, estoy esperando la solución lo antes posible, esto ha sido demasiado frustrante, estoy sin servicio hace 10 días y no debería ser así.
por que medio avisarán que funciona de nuevo o las instrucciones para restablecer este molesto problema?
03-16-2025 06:18 AM
And if we did factory reset? Now what?
03-16-2025 06:19 AM
If you’re one of those people who accidentally reset their cast device to factory settings, here’s what you need to do:
1. Change the date on your phone to any day before March 8th.
2. Add the cast device to your home.
3. Most importantly, configure it to work with your Wi-Fi network.
Once that's done, you can set the correct date on your phone. The audio cast still won’t work immediately, but it will start checking for a Google update. Once the update is installed, it should work as usual.

It takes so many days to fix one update???? Or you do that on purpose so we buy new one ? You better believe that of course I won't buu again Google cast for sure
03-16-2025 06:27 AM
I already performed a factory reset before i know
03-16-2025 06:27 AM
When we can expect fix for factory reset chromecast
03-16-2025 06:30 AM
Did the "Change the date to 07.march" and worked fine with the Cast Audio👍. Will the same issue occur when I'm connecting an "old" and not in use at the moment 2.gen. Cromecast ??
03-16-2025 06:34 AM

For those of us who did a factory reset, check out this Reddit article. I did this and my Chromecast immediately updated when it connected back to WiFi and now all is well. Quick instructions:
Get your setup device (Android or iOS)
Set the date on the device to March 7, 2025 (or earlier)
Setup Chromecast in Google Home as usual
When it connects to WiFi it will immediately download the update/fix
Finish setup
Change date on setup device back to current
All done!

What is the status for those who performed the factory reset (following Google help instructions received during trouble shooting). ? When can we expect to have this problem sorted please.
03-16-2025 06:47 AM
My two Chromecast Audio devices (used to stream Spotify to my analog stereo system) miraculously came back to life yesterday. Huzzah!!
I am super happy Google's engineers were able to figure out a fix. Congrats to those involved—from what I understand, it was not a trivial matter.
I hope info re: the nature of the problem (& the fix) is published by Google. I am interested to understand what the technical issue(s) were, and what steps were needed to get things (at least partially) resolved.
