If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Para aquellos que han restablecido su Chromecast a estado de fábrica y siguen teniendo problemas de autenticación, la solución es muy sencilla: en un iPad o iPhone, cambia la fecha al 7 de marzo de 2025, enciende el televisor con el Chromecast conectado y espera. El dispositivo se actualizará automáticamente sin necesidad de hacer nada más. Luego, procede con la configuración normal y, una vez completada, restaura la fecha correcta en tu dispositivo. Everything will work perfectly again.

Set your smartphone's date back to March 7, reconfigure your home (Google Home), and start from scratch. This was a tip from someone in the group, and it worked now.

Retrasa la fecha de tu smartphone al 7 de marzo, reconfigura tu casa (Google Home) y comienza desde cero. Fue un consejo de alguien del grupo y ahora funcionó.
Descargo: Es increíble que una empresa como Google no tenga profesionales capaces de solucionar este problema con una solución tan simple. Si perdiste la paciencia con esta falta de respeto hacia los clientes de Chromecast, no compres otro producto de Google. Compra de la competencia. Boicot es la palabra mágica para una situación tan desagradable.


Retroceda a data do seu smartphone para 7 de março, reconfigure sua casa (Google Home) e comece do zero. Essa foi uma dica de alguém do grupo, e agora funcionou.
Desabafo: É impossível que uma empresa como o Google não tenha profissionais capazes de resolver esse problema com uma solução tão simples. Se você perdeu a paciência com esse desrespeito aos clientes do Chromecast, não compre outro produto do Google. Compre da concorrência. Cambia la fecha de tu dispositivo al 8 de marzo o anterior, intenta conectar el Chromecast nuevamente y realiza la instalación de forma normal. Después de eso, recibirá la actualización automáticamente. Cuando termine, solo pon tu teléfono nuevamente en la fecha actual. Espero que ayude.

For all the people who performed a factory reset during their initial troubleshooting, this procedure will allow you to reconnect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network, so that it can receive the firmware update fix that Google started rolling out on 3/13.

1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 7, 2025 or earlier. If you don't know how to do that, see below.*

2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast by adding it as a new device (+). You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Most importantly, it'll now be reconnected to your Wi-Fi network so that it can receive the firmware update fix.

3) Change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.

4) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed. This should restore your Chromecast to full functionality.

Note: Supposedly it's being done as a "phased rollout", so it could take a while for the firmware update to hit your Chromecast. Also, some have reported that power-cycling your Chromecast (unplug/re-plug the power cable) will sort of "provoke" the firmware update to be installed. Patience.

 

*How to change your phone's date/time settings:

For iPhone/iPad: go to Settings, General, Date & Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.

For most Android phones/tablets: Settings, General Management, Date and Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.

How long you will take to fix this issue, most of them have done factory reset. 
we need a approximate date or week number to resolve this issue.

Change your device date for 8th March or previous, try to connect Chromecast again, do the installation normally.

After that, it will get the update by itself. When finish, just put your phone back to the actual date. Hope it helps.

Hola!  Para quienes como yo, restablecisteis a valores de fábrica, os cuento:  hay que modificar la fecha del dispositivo en que se utiliza Google Home a 5 de marzo de 2025.

Una vez realizado, hay que hacer la instalación del dispositivo y la actualización se cargará sola, completando sin problemas la configuración del Chromecast.

Mucha suerte!!  Yo ya lo tengo operativo de nuevo

Ainda não retornou o chromecast e também não sabia que não era pra restaurar as configurações de fábrica. Poderiam dar uma posição de quanto tempo ainda vai demorar

Mude a data do seu dispositivo para 8 de março ou anterior, tente conectar o Chromecast novamente e faça a instalação normalmente. Depois disso, ele vai receber a atualização automaticamente.

Quando terminar, basta colocar o seu telefone de volta na data atual.
