Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Gracias por su preocupación. Pero cuando empezó a fallar mi chromecast segui los pasos que recomendaba la aplicación. Y uno de ellos era restablecer la configuración de fabrica y lo hice.

Quedo y quedamos en espera una solución para los que hicimos la restauración de fabrica.

What is the status for those of us who factory reset? It's almost 2 weeks now

Al sabado passdo mi chromecast ha actualizado y ahora funciona bien

Unfortunately I did a factory reset. Am enger to get the solution soon.

I have reset the Chromecast before I was aware of this. How can I make sure I get those instructions? I can't connect the Chromecast to the internet now....

Setup your chromecast again but first change the date in your phone before 03/09/25 then the new certificate will be  downloaded as an update. Good luck!

Por favor necesitamos una solución a este problema 😵💫 

Pablogcsrrssco, el problema ya fue resuelto si no lo reseteaste de fabrica le va a llegar una actualizacion con el nuevo certificado sino podes resetearlo de fabrica y volver a configurarlo pero con la fecha de tu celular previa al 9 de Marzo del 2025. Asi te permite configurar la red wifi y te descarga el nuevo certificado.

The problem is still a issue. My cromecast is not working. Google have now 24h to solve the problems or i will throw it out from 5th floor and see then it get crused. So typical american companies, want to buy the whole world but have never done anything with any quality.

Still trouble… when will you fix it?

Set your phone's date to March 3, 2025, then set it up again with the Google Home app.

Setzen Sie das Datum Ihres Handys auf den 03.03.2025. Dann mit der Google Home App neu einrichten.

What if i did reset? I was not updated ahout this problem. So i did a reset, but now i cant set up my chromecast to device

step 1: manually set your smart phone date to Mar 8 (exactly Mar 8, other days won't work).   step 2: connect Chromcast, on your phone open Google Home app, add device to go through setup process. the final stage, Chromcast will update (do not try the casting demo, wont' work)
step 3: go back to smart phone set the date & time to automatic (correct current date) basically, you only need to change the date back (to Mar 😎 & forth (to current) for it to work.

I did the same, to fix, change date in phone to before the issue (I used 3/3/25) then add new device using Google home. I was very sceptical this would work but it did. I would advise waiting till the update has finished on chromecast before pressing next to avoid "setup taking too long" fault and I did have to cycle power to chromecast and correct date on phone before I could cast.
