Update 3/20/25

Hey folks, 

If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.

Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

If you’re still experiencing problems during setup, please reach out to customer support for further assistance.

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Hi everyone,

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:

Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165

Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166

Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Hey everyone, thank you for your patience while we work to resolve this issue. Here’s the latest:

We have started to roll out a fix for the problem with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices, which will be completed over the next few days. Your device must be connected to receive the update.

If you performed a factory reset during initial troubleshooting, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup your device. We are working to resolve this as soon as possible. Please continue to check the Community page here for updates and next steps.

An update on the situation: the team has identified the cause of the issue impacting Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices.

Please do not factory reset your device. If you previously performed a factory reset during troubleshooting, you may also be experiencing an issue where you're unable to re-setup your device. The team has identified the cause for this as well and is currently working on a fix.

We’re working to resolve this as soon as possible, and will keep you updated when there is more to share.

Just wanted to say thanks! My Chromecast updated today, and the ‘untrusted device’ error is gone. Appreciate the quick fix!

My chromecast is still not being found by Netflix however it is found by every other streaming service. All apps and firmware is up to date

I just downloaded the "latest" version FROM THE PLAY STORE, but it is NOT the latest version (.1.6), it is only version .1.5. WHY do you not have the "fix" version on the play store.

In the app store the last update is the version 3.30.1.5 where I get the version 6. For me the store, told that is updated.

Boa noite, meu dispositivo voltou a funcionar... Como descrito em cima a atualização 3.30.1.6 do app HOME corrigiu o problema em menos de 3 minutos... Mesmo assim uma ressalva! Essa atualização não foi encontrada na Playstore (pelo menos no meu aparelho Android, por volta das 18:30 (horário de São Paulo)... Vou deixar aqui o link de onde encontrei ela caso mais alguém tenha esse problema (se estiver ferindo alguma regra por por o link aqui peço desculpas antecipadas)... https://chromecast.br.uptodown.com/android/download/1062003894-x  fica a bronca sim com a google pela demora na resolução (repito uma fintech desse porte não pode ser ausente, omissa e preguiçosa na resolução de um problema desse tamanho)... que esse episódio sirva de alerta e crie em vocês uma consciência e melhor atitude perante a resolução de problemas futuros (espero que não aconteçam denovo)!

Prezados, boa noite.

 

Informo que, na presente data (17/03/2025), alterei a data do meu celular para dia anterior ao 09/03/2025, sendo que, desta forma, foi possível estabelecer a conexão com o chromecast, o qual foi atualizado normalmente após a conexão, inclusive, informo que o dispositivo se encontra no formato de fábrica, tendo em vista a recomendação inicial da página de problemas

Caso necessitem de mais informações, sigo à disposição.

I had done a factory reset.  I've updated the home app to the current version as mentioned above.  Now when I go to set up my device again I have the message "Connection failed.  Couldn't connect to Chromecast.  Try factory resetting your device.  Tap get help for more information."

Should I factory reset or wait for another update?

Even now, I have been unable to connect my chromecast to the internet, it remains stuck on the “Connecting” screen

Updated to newest version and still unable to set up chromecast audio. Still not showing wifi when setting up.

I did factory reset. So, I changed date on my phone to March 7 (or earlier, as read from other's recommendations) and reconnected for updating. When you reconnected, the system will perform updating.

Once the updating process is finished, change date on your phone to auto date.  Then follow the normal casting process.....it works!!!

Mine is still not working after doing all that you listed

I changed the date on my phone to March 7th and followed the rest of JitSujittra's clever method. I also unpluged and repluged my TV first and left my Bluetooth off. I wish you luck

Solamente cambien la fecha del celular conecten al chromecast mediante Google home el chromecast se actualizara y reiniciará, al final vuelvan Ah colocar la fecha actual y listo.

NOT WORKING AGAIN…… it started working on Saturday March 15. It worked yesterday, the 16 of March, and it worked today UNTIL approximately 8:15 PM (Mountain Daylight Savings Time). It stopped casting, as we were watching a video.  It’s currently dead as the proverbial door nail….we have two of the Version 2 Chromecast dongles.

An update…..12 hours later, I turned tv on….nothing. I unplugged the chromecast gen 2 dongle from its hdmi port, then disconnected the chromecast’s power. Waited about a minute, reconnected the power, then plugged the dongle back into its hdmi port. The Google screensaver appeared with local time and weather showing again. Tried casting a movie from my iPad…..SUCCESS 👍🏼

Acabei redefinindo o meu de fábrica, e só conectei ele na TV agora porq estava em viagem de mudança de estado. Fui testar agr, e não está funcionando. Acabei redefinindo. Oq eu faço agr?

Dan de chromecast en google home volledig opnieuw installeren. Dan woord hij relevant. Ondertussen kan je de datum terug naar huidige datum veranderen. En rustig wachten met wat geduld. Kan snel naar een dag gaan voor de update.

 

Je chromecast zal terug werken als nieuw. België

Sorry, but no, it's still not fixed. I've tried everything stated once again now that you've claimed it's fixed, however it will still not authenticate when I try to set it up. I've even uninstalled and reinstalled the Home app on my phone. Really disappointed.

Thanks for the Fix. Worked well. ( I had a Factory reset device. When we first saw the issue did Factory reset.) . Now it is up and running with latest Google Home Home App/ Re connect- Thanks
