Hi, same problem here in Argentina. I think they did it intentionally.

Chromecast worked fine for years, but today it stopped working. Tried a reset to factory settings but I just can't complete the setup. The Home app can find the device but, while trying to establish a connection, it indicates that it can't authenticate.
I tried everything. Unplugging and plugging again, switching WiFi from 2.4 to 5.8, restarting modem, updating Home app... nothing worked.

Same problem here: After the reset I get the message "Failed to authenticate" and I can no longer stream content from my phone, for example Netflix.

Got the exact same message, tried restarting the device twice- did nothing, saw a reddit post suggesting that if I clear my phone's Google Play store data and cache that would solve it: it did not, a YouTube tech support video suggested an auto-update may have caused the issue and that going into the device settings and removing that update might solve the issue: plan to try that when my roommate gets home and seeing if that does anything.

We couldn't authenticate your Chromecast.

03-09-2025 09:48 PM
Same in Thailand. Factory reset device, redownload home app, even got authentication codes from Google thinking maybe it was problem with my Google account. Updated the address for the device. All to no avail. It's an old device first set up in 2010. Want me to buy a new device? Okay, but how do I know it will work?
03-09-2025 10:51 PM
Don't worry, my friend, my device is from 2018 and the same thing happens to me.
03-09-2025 10:35 PM

Bonjour,
03-10-2025 02:32 AM
People, looks like Google has 'bricked' the second gen Chromecast. It's little more than hockey puck shaped e-waste now. RIP. 😡
03-10-2025 02:39 AM
bonjour
03-10-2025 03:28 AM
Exactly same here ,have done factory reset and now just stuck trying to set up ,but keeps saying it can't communicate with the device ......help!
03-10-2025 04:16 AM
search google "google chromecast outage"
seems its global outage for Google to resolve
03-10-2025 03:36 AM
I have reset my device twice, as it stopped working yesterday, and it keeps telling me it can't authenticate my device.... @Google@Google......please help resolve
03-10-2025 03:38 AM
I am from South Africa....
03-10-2025 03:41 AM
Same Here, been follow all instructions but the result still same..
With notif:
• Could not communicate
• Could not authenticate
What happened really?
Is it out of date and can not use anymore?
