Hey folks,
If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Another member suggested changing the date on your device. I changed mine to the 4th March. I'm now up and running and watching Loki. Can't find the original message but it worked.

The work around that worked for me is to reset your phones' date to earlier than 8 March 2025. Run Google Home and add your device. You should follow all prompts. If you are in an area that Google has rolled out the update, you should see an update progress bar on your TV and the Chromecast will probably power reset twice. Don't forget to reset your phones' date. Open Google Home, see if your device is listed. Open you Streaming App on your phone and test casting. Goodluck.

2 chrome cast audio work and have the xxx166 version. 1 i reset before, using setting the date back on phone I could connect it.

Personalmente da me Torino Italia è stato sufficiente riavviare il Chromecast ed è giunto l'aggiornamento,che prima automaticamente si e scaricato ed a seguire sè installato! Ed ora funziona come prima tramite Google Home Grazie

Ya lo logre, lo reestableci de fabrica, pero desinstale la app de home y puse en mi teléfono Android una fecha antes del 9 de marzo, volví a instalar la app y lo intente conectar con el Chromecast y funcionó por fin se pudo, luego puse la fecha a la de ahora y ya se puede transmitir 🥰🥰💕 (recuerden darle los permisos necesarios a la app)

Se você , assim como eu, restaurou antes da atualização eu consegui resolver. Altere a data do seu celular para 01/03/25 efetue a configuração normalmente, assim que a rede for restaurada no Chromecast ele atualizará automaticamente. GOOGLE PODE MANDAR MEU PAGAMENTO!

If you performed a factory reset, you can still re-attach it to your "home". This will allow you to receive the new firmware with the updated CA certificate installed. Here's how: Using your device (e.g.: Android phone or whatever you have the Home App on), change the date to March 1st. Then add the new device to your home per normal. It will find it as a new device and it will connect to the network and internet again. Then it will get the new firmware when it rolls out. You're welcome 🙂
