Well at the end, no solution on the chromecast matters, it’s been a week since the problem started are you guys going to fix it?  shall we just wait till you send the money back or a new device?

Why is it taking so long to fix those Chromcast that did a factory reset? You should have taken the troubleshooting steps in the begining when the problem was first reported. Shame on you.

Got a new internet connection with new credentials so to connect to my Gen2 Cheomecast had to do factory reset that worked all fine in the past. Now Chromecast won't connect. How long will it take to resolve this?

For all the people who performed a factory reset during their initial troubleshooting, this procedure will allow you to reconnect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network, so that it can receive the firmware update fix that Google started rolling out on 3/13.

1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 7, 2025 or earlier. If you don't know how to do that, see below.*

2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast by adding it as a new device (+). You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Most importantly, it'll now be reconnected to your Wi-Fi network so that it can receive the firmware update fix.

3) Change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.

4) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed. This should restore your Chromecast to full functionality.

Note: Supposedly it's being done as a "phased rollout", so it could take a while for the firmware update to hit your Chromecast. Also, some have reported that power-cycling your Chromecast (unplug/re-plug the power cable) will sort of "provoke" the firmware update to be installed. Patience.

*How to change your phone's date/time settings:

For iPhone/iPad: go to Settings, General, Date & Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.

For most Android phones/tablets: Settings, General Management, Date and Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.

**Google REALLY should pin this information to the top of this page!**

1. First, go to settings on your phone. 2. In settings, go in and REMOVE automatic clock, and change the date manually to March 1. 3. Go to the "Google Home" app on your phone, and try to go to the one you usually use, what happens then is that your chromecast starts downloading new updates, and it restarts, when it's done you can go back to settings and change to today's date and don't forget to set it back to AUTOMATIC. 4. Now you can go into the Google Home app and you can tap on the chromecast user that you usually use, then it should be ready for use. Good luck!

For those who have iPhone open chromecast on the tv then go to your App Store on your iPhone update google home app and just let the magic occurs they fixed no matter if you reset the chromecast

by the way on iPhone it’s not possible to change the date so do as I say i just did it it’s working great

POSSIBLE FIX FOR FACTORY RESETED DEVICES (update)

  • As I’ve mentioned earlier I’ve successfully connected the chromecast device to the internet by changing the time on my cellphone.
That and giving it a day turned off somehow made that after reconnecting automatically to the wifi it downloaded the fix

(Possible) NewsFlash:

Some users have reported here that Google has just released a new version of the Home app (currently for iPhone only?) that addresses the "factory reset" hellscape that many are experiencing. I can see that there is a new version on the Apple App Store from today 3/16, but I'm an Android guy so I can't confirm that it actually fixes this issue. That would be great, a much simpler solution than the well-known "date" workaround, especially for non-technical users. If true, then the answer would be as simple as updating to the latest version of the Home app and then using it to re-setup your Chromecast.

I'd like to hear from other iPhone users here if this is indeed the fix that so many people have been waiting for. Please report results here.

Also, if all of this is true, I assume they'll be releasing an Android version soon.
