If you previously performed a factory reset, we’re happy to report that the Google Home app update will reach all users today.
Please make sure you’re on version 3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio. Check out this help center article if you need help updating the Google Home app.

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.
If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.
We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

Thank you again for your patience, we have some good news - the fix should reach all users today. If your device has received the update it should be on the following firmware versions:
Chromecast (2nd gen): Firmware version 1.56.467165
Chromecast Audio: Firmware version 1.56.467166
Check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.
Please note: If you performed a factory reset during the troubleshooting process, you may still be experiencing an issue where you cannot re-setup the device. The team is working diligently to resolve this, and we will provide next steps as soon as possible.

Je tijd en datum op je gsm terug zetten naar minstens 8/3.
Je chromecast volledig opnieuw installeren. Je zal zien dat hij terug zal verbinden. Je mag dan ondertussen je datum terug naar de huidige datum zetten. Dan rustig afwachten tot hij volledig is geupdated terug. Ongeveer 2 dagen bij mij. Ondertussen werkt hij weer perfect sinds enkele dagen al.
Heb ik te danken aan een johnnyzero2. Zoek hem op.

Hello, I'll try to help you. 1- Change the date on your Smartphone to 03/01/2025. 2- Turn on Chromecast. 3- Connect the device to Google Home. 3- It will update automatically. 4- Return the automatic time on your Smartphone. 5- Check if everything is connected correctly on the Chromecast and the HDMI cables. See if it works. If not, unplug it from the socket for 15 seconds and plug it back in. I hope I could help.

Load the app from Google play store first, then change the date to March 8th. That's how I got it to work.

I got tired of waiting for Google to fix this - the updated Home app is still not available on my Android phone (although it shows up on my laptop?!) so I went ahead and did the date change trick. It took a couple of trial and error tries but it worked. Why would Google not tell us about this as an option? Oh, I guess because if we figure it out ourselves they don't have to pay us for doing their job... Thank you to whoever came up with that workaround and absolutely no thanks to Google for only fixing their f#&$up for some people and not others and taking 10 days to do that! Shame on you Google.

Je viens de réinitialiser mes 3 chromecast.
1 à fonctionné immédiatement au lancement
1 à effectué une mise à jour
Le dernier que j'avais réinitialiser en mode usine s'est reconfiguré sans pb.
A priori tout fonctionne..
J'espère que ça va durer car c'est vraiment top ces petits chromecast
Merci d'avoir permis que nos appareils fonctionnent à nouveau j'ai eu peur de l'obsolescence programmée

Hi. Of course I did a factory reset, that's what the help pages advised.
So now I'm waiting for 3.30.1.6 for Android to be available in the PlayStore, but this is the third day I have checked and no sign of it yet. Only 3.30.1.5 which is what I have currently installed.
My Android version is 13 and I'm in the UK.
So what am I to do? When will it appear in the PlayStore?

Just got off the phone with tech. **Only for those who factory reset their chromecast, deleted their device, and whenever they tried to re-add it, they kept getting "can't authenticate device" message**: Go to the app store, update the Google Home app, open app, click add device, proceed as usual, will then prompt process to update app in tandum (will take a hot minute for updates to load).. Voila.
