Update 3/17/25:

Hi folks,

Thank you for your patience as we worked to resolve the issue with Chromecast (2nd gen) and Chromecast Audio devices. As of today, this disruption has been fixed.

If you did not perform a factory reset, your device should now function normally. If it is still not functioning as intended check the firmware version of your device by following the instructions here. If your device is not on the corresponding firmware version, please try rebooting your device to start the update process.

For users who have performed a factory reset, you will need to update your Google Home app to the latest version (3.30.1.6 for Android and 3.30.106 for iOS) to set up your Chromecast (2nd gen) or Chromecast Audio device again. The app roll out has begun and may take a few days to roll out to everyone. We’ll post a confirmation once the roll out to all users is complete.

We sincerely apologize for this disruption and any inconvenience it may have caused, and we are committed to ensuring all users are back up and running as quickly as possible.

It's been nearly a week now and I'm still unable to connect to my chromecast.

Do you have any idea how much longer it will be before the issue is resolved please ?

Is there any update for those who reset their device please?

I performed a factory reset...so couldn't connect since.

But I've just fixed the issues by doing the suggested change of altering thr phone date to 01/03/25.

It's now connected and is performing the firmware update.

Hope this works for everyone else.

That's great. But your post could give other users the false impression that simply altering their phone's date alone will somehow fix it. There's actually a bit more to it than that.

For all the people who performed a factory reset during their initial troubleshooting, this procedure will allow you to reconnect your Chromecast to your Wi-Fi network, so that it can receive the firmware update fix that Google started rolling out on 3/13.

1) Temporarily set the date on your smartphone (or tablet) to March 7, 2025 or earlier. If you don't know how to do that, see below.*

2) Use the Google Home app to re-setup your Chromecast by adding it as a new device (+). You still won't be able to cast, and the device will be grayed out in the Home app, but that's ok. Most importantly, it'll now be reconnected to your Wi-Fi network so that it can receive the firmware update fix.

3) Change your phone's date/time setting back to Auto now.

4) Sit back and wait for the firmware update from Google to be installed. This should restore your Chromecast to full functionality.

Note: Supposedly it's being done as a "phased rollout", so it could take a while for the firmware update to hit your Chromecast. Also, some have reported that power-cycling your Chromecast (unplug/re-plug the power cable) will sort of "provoke" the firmware update to be installed.  Patience.

*How to change your phone's date/time settings:

For iPhone/iPad: go to Settings, General, Date & Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.

For most Android phones/tablets: Settings, General Management, Date and Time. Disable "Auto" and manually set the date to March 7, 2025 or earlier.

**Google REALLY should pin this information to the top of this page.**

Hola! Si cambias la fecha de tu dispositivo a una anterior al 09/03, podes volver a configurar a tu Chromecast a wifi y luego se actualizará solo

I had already factory reset one of my 2 devices before reading this notification. One that has not been reset is now back on. The other that was will still not connect. What are you going to do about this.......as it is your problem and I would think a lot of people have done the same.

That's great.

But your post could give other users the false impression that simply altering their phone's date alone will somehow fix it. There's actually a bit more to it than that.
