Regarding audio and video not synced with Google TV Streamer

Hey everyone,

We are aware that some users might be experiencing an issue where audio is not synced with video from their Google TV Streamer. This appears to be related to specific audio equipment and configurations, and does not seem to be a widespread problem. We are actively looking into the issue, and will provide an update once we have more information.

In the meantime, if you are encountering this, we encourage you to contact Google Nest Support.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for your patience. The team has identified the root cause for some of the key audio issues that users have reported. We’ve started to roll out a software update which includes a new feature that allows you to customize the output format settings that best fits your media setup.

Follow these steps to customize your preferred settings:

  • Navigate to All Settings at the top right of the TV screen
  • Select Display & Sound > Audio options > Output format

You will be able to choose between Automatic (recommended), Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or PCM stereo.

Note: If Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or PCM stereo is selected, your media equipment (TV, A/V receiver, or soundbar) should also support this format to avoid audio or visual issues.

To manually download the latest update, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to All Settings at the top right of the TV screen
  • Select System > About > System update

We hade the same problem. Thank you for your instructions. It worked perfectly.

It works for me also the "Match Content Dynamic Range" re-enable. Thanks! Please fix this Google!

Horrible sync issues - sometimes works, most often doesn't.  Across all apps.

New Google Streamer

New HDMI 2.1 cable plugged into HDMI/ARC input set to Enhanced Signal Format (problem exists on non-ARC ports and non-enhanced signal format ports as well)

Sony Bravia XBR-65X850D

So, 4 weeks ago you acknowledge it.

3 weeks ago you posted a quite ridiculous remark insinuating you need e-ARC and cables with certificates.

Now there are far more communities talking about this. As well those that aren't and returning 'faulty' Google TV Streamer's.

My feeling is you have a faulty / dodgy batch of boxes. Either, way, this is taking the piss.

What's the latest @GoogleNestTeam ?

Please remove this answer. This is not a solution to the problem and it's misleading to show this thread as having an answer when it doesn't. We've done EVERYTHING you suggested including spending more money buying all new hdmi cables for every component in our system. Now we can't even get a response. It's been weeks at this point and we're getting silence. I can't even return the thing now.

Agreed.  No one here has said cabling fixed this problem.

Because it doesn't

So for a 100€ device that isn't backwards compatible with industry wide standards you expect people to buy a new TV, A/V or soundbar? Thats putting a lot of people in the cold with this forced change in product line where it seems the customer is the QA department and pays the bill at once. Good going Google..

this is so disappointing.... bought a $100 streamer and it can't keep video/audio in sync on my Sony Bravia XBR-65X850D, using new hdmi 2.1 cable directly plugged into the tv.  All sound related settings disabled.

Come on Google!

I've tried everything and I still have this issue. Stop pretending it could be an HDMI cable fault. There is clearly something wrong with the Google TV streamer. I can't even watch YouTube because the audio is out of sync

So it has been a couple days and so far the issue hasn't returned. I found a setting on my Sony TV that was "a/v sync" and set to auto. Turning that off seems to have fixed the issue.

I'm confused ... Is having an HDMI 2.1 cable and having an e-Arc compatible  TV/sound system a requirement to use the Google TV Streamer? Or are you just suggesting this until the bug is fixed? I need to know that it's going to be backward compatible with Arc once you release a patch, else I may as well return it and purchase a different streamer..

For those of you with Sony TVs, go into the settings and turn off "a/v sync" which is set to automatic from the factory. That completely fixed the audio sync issues for me.

Settings on the TV or on the Google Streamer? Which setting exactly?

Your help is much appreciated

Tried all the suggestions from Google. I still have an issue with zero improvement. Including buying new HDMI cables.

Google Streamer Audio out of sync. Philips Ambilight TV. HDMI 2.1 (certified) to TV from Google Streamer. Philips Ambilight TV to Sonos Arc (Gen 1) via hdmi 2.1 certified. Sound settings manual output DTS on (rest off).

I bought your new streamer to renew my old nvidia shield which is very old for like 7 years. NEVER had any issue, NEVER. Fix your streamer very fast or refund me 100$ for a broken product not tested. Sound cuts out on EVERY app, this has nothing to do with hdmi 2.1 cable or router or wifi or idk what, your streamer is BROKEN

Also getting this issue of sound delay alongside occasional frame skips. The delay time is really variable between pauses and restarts, up to easily a half second. I can press the home button, the whole home screen loads and then a metronome can still be heard after that, that visually occured prior to pressing the home button.

Samsung S95B TV.

LG SN11RG soundbar connected with eARC. Although the issue persists with the soundbar unplugged using the TV speakers.

Google TV streamer connected by ethernet with >800Mbps down and >100Mbps up on speed tests.

Problem persists through 4 different Premium high speed HDMI cables mixed and matched (I appreciate not the ultra high speed 2.1 version although is rated to support 4k 60hz content).

Persists despite playing content on YouTube or locally from Plex. Video is playing before the audio and so cannot correct for it in TV or soundbar settings.

I've tried all of the above suggestions of reboot and turning various sound settings off, none of which corrected the issue including turning off surround sound. I've played with every TV setting I can find with no resolution.

It's overall a real shame, as this is finally a product with true Dolby Atmos support alongside an ethernet port and it unfortunately is completely unwatchable with the severe audio delay.

TEST your product, DEBUG your product, this is not CUSTOMER fault, its GOOGLE fault god please send a whole system IT SENIOR engineers team on this bug NOW and provide a FIX FAST... what is the heck about trying to troubleshoot on hdmi cables are you out of your mind Google managers ???

I have one of the simplest setups and I experience audio delays. Using the Google TV streamer with a HDMI 2.1 cable and a Samsung the frame QN55LS03DAF. I ordered two different 2.1 HDMI cables but still have audio delays. Rebooting the streamer helps. This is NOT an HDMI cable issue. Never had those problems with my Chromecast.

When was Google's last public statement about this? Are they even giving us follow-ups?

Lewis4

I'm giving Google 2 more days to provide us an update on their progress fixing this, else the Google TV streamer is being returned and I'll stick to Roku.

This experience has definitely made me a more cautious buyer of Google products.

Just started having this issue myself. The audio sync seems to get worse the longer the system has been in standby, and can only be fixed by a reboot. I'm only using the TV's speakers, so really, how much more simple could it get?

I just received my Google TV Streamer 4K today, unhooked my ROKU, completed setup and opened Hulu to watch the live TV subscription.  After 15 minutes or so, the audio started to be more and more un-synced, to where it's about 2 seconds off on all channels.

I have a Samsung S95B OLED, just using TV onboard sound and all TV sound enhancements turned off. Streamer is connected via a Pacroban Ultra High Speed Certified HDMI 2.1 Cord, Braided, eARC, 48Gbps, 8K 60Hz, 4K 120Hz/Fps DTS:X cable, internet connection is 1.2GB Ethernet CAT7 connection.  I've rebooted the TV, modem, router and Streamer, with no resolution. This never occurred with my Roku or previous Amazon Firestick.

I got my streamer yesterday, and I had the same audio issues almost immediately.

None of the trouble shooting steps helped.

Switching different HDMI cables didn't help either.

Is there any permanent fix for this yet??

I'm having the same issue with Google Streamer 4K that connected to Samsung sound bar.

Even it's said "this is not widespread",

We can clearly see this is absolutely widespread matter.

Just accept it & work on it..

We'll wait for your update..

it's that much simple. Thanks.

It makes for watch'in John Wick a very different experience.. I don't know why I'm still putting up with it! (Especially from Google TV on my Google Streamer)

Google TV Streamer is absolute garbage. All of these major issues and this is all Google has to offer. This piece of sh*t can't even pass lossless audio to my capable soundbar because there is no pass-through option. If I use the OS directly on my TV everything plays yeah a TV from 3 years ago plays better than this piece of crap streamer box. I have nothing but audio lags and delays and sometimes a black screen when it switches frame rates from the TV then I have to turn the TV and the streaming box off to get a screen again. Yes I'm using all the right cables and yes everything's hooked up correctly. I guess I got to switch to an Nvidia shield. People don't buy this trash. It's just another mediocre Google product with bugs that Google refuses to address and probably will never fix.

I know we all complain here about all the issues the Google TV streamer has but google couldn't care less about it. The lack of feedback from Google only confirms it.

I RMA'd my device as faulty; if everyone else does the same they will lose enough money from it and do something about it.

My device is being returned tomorrow. Google TV Streamer has some impressive features, but it's not useful if they are buggy and/or unstable. Would be willing to wait for a patch but I just don't feel reassured by the limited communication and customer service. Will stick to Roku products -- never experienced any problems with them.

RMAing my GTVstreamer as we speak to see if newer units fixed the problem.  Google chromecast/streamer engineers are just not too bright when it comes to audio setups, e.g., GTVS -> Denon AVR -> TV (via arc).   Even back in the CCwGTV days.

I have a 2016 LG TV with some now unsupported LG OS that hasn't been updated in 6 years.  I went into the settings on that TV itself.  There is an audio setting.  It was on HDMI Audio Sync and I changed it to LG Audio Sync.  That fixed the problem for me.  I have a bose soundbar optically attached to the LG TV.

Tonight I took the opportunity to revisit an Apple TV and it puts the Streamer to shame. Audio completely synced and far smoother motion, especially on YouTube. Google can't even get their own streaming service right on their own product.

My TV has Google TV built-in too and that has been woeful. I put that down to Sony but perhaps it was Google all along. I won't be giving them another chance.

I am fully invested into the Google ecosystem but seeing that the newest Apple TV is about the same price as the Google TV streamer I might just switch to that.

Don't get me wrong, the Apple TV isn't perfect - the Streamer has much nicer picture quality - but you can't go wrong with Apple's quality control.

The TV streamer has better picture quality or apple?

The Google TV Streamer has nicer picture quality (IMO). It's all subjective of course but I've always found the Apple TV to have average picture quality, but I seem to be alone in that opinion.

I might give one of these high-end generic Android TV boxes a try off of Amazon lol. It will definitely be sad if a Chinese or a generic box off of Amazon can output true pass through lossless audio to my receiver lol I will try and chime back in once I buy one and receive one.

Let's not forget the Nvidia Shield. A little older now but a premium product built on Android

Very true, but only thing is it will likely receive no more updates and it will never have anymore OS updates. Yes if you can find a nice one used for a decent price, but not full retail.
