Regarding audio and video not synced with Google TV Streamer

Hey everyone,

We are aware that some users might be experiencing an issue where audio is not synced with video from their Google TV Streamer. This appears to be related to specific audio equipment and configurations, and does not seem to be a widespread problem. We are actively looking into the issue, and will provide an update once we have more information.

In the meantime, if you are encountering this, we encourage you to contact Google Nest Support.

Hey everyone,

Thank you for your patience. The team has identified the root cause for some of the key audio issues that users have reported. We’ve started to roll out a software update which includes a new feature that allows you to customize the output format settings that best fits your media setup.

Follow these steps to customize your preferred settings:

  • Navigate to All Settings at the top right of the TV screen
  • Select Display & Sound > Audio options > Output format

You will be able to choose between Automatic (recommended), Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or PCM stereo.

Note: If Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Digital, or PCM stereo is selected, your media equipment (TV, A/V receiver, or soundbar) should also support this format to avoid audio or visual issues.

To manually download the latest update, follow these steps:

  • Navigate to All Settings at the top right of the TV screen
  • Select System > About > System update

What about the frame rate issue with the Google TV Streamer? Is a fix coming for that anytime soon?

i found a solution. i unplugged it and replaced it with the ONN brand 4k streamer. $50 seems a little more responsive and it also has the ethernet cable with is a big hit wit me. Shame they couldnt come up with a fix. sorry Google you dropped the ball on this one...moving on ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I wish you would look at the comments. I even sent a direct support request and never heard anything back. The biggest issue affecting people now is not syncing media but the fact that people cannot get Dolby surround of various types on their streaming device. There is a problem where everything defaults to why the stereo when you switch the system on or you just get Dolby PCM or multi-channel PCM. Lots of people have referenced how they used to have no problem on the old Chromecast with streaming TV but with the new streaming device there are all sorts of problems. Are you listening to this. Have you seen this in all these comments on the forum. Never mind the fact that I made a service request and never heard anything back

This is the major issue IMO.

Here is how I work around this issue.

Each time I use the media play I first go into the advance sound setting and change it from automatic detection to manual then back to auto. So far this has worked for getting the proper sound stream for the video format, Dolby, Atmos etc..

Hopefully this will work for you too, not this it is a proper solution to this problem.

After months of struggle I have solved the audio/video sync issue with the Google Streamer. I went and bought an Apple TV 4K.  Then I unplugged the Google Streamer from my TV and plugged in the Apple TV.

Problem solved!

There really is a pretty nice device hidden beneath all these software quirks. I hope Google bother to address them but I'm not holding my breath.

Audio came back for me after disabling HDMI-CEC. I'm not sure if it'll lag and/or die again. Your mileage may vary.

Any news on this?

Are there any updates on this or did everyone forget about it lol. No posts

I just gave up. Google doesn't care. I bit the bullet and just bought an Onn Google TV 4k...pretty much the same thing and no audio issues

Google hoping we all just give up.. which is what I did. Apple TV 4K for the win.

I have just chatted with support about the HDMI passthrough problem, according to the product specification the streamer only supports Dolby Atmos. My feedback was taken on board, I have very little hope that anything will be changed here...

Interesting! Because the only audio format I'm not having issues with is Dolby Atmos on my Sonos Arc Ultra. Every other format it changes to PCM and keep having audio drop out, for about 2 seconds, randomly at intervals of about 10 minutes. This starts to get annoying and I never had any audio issues on the Chromecast ultra 4k.

Still having this issue tried all the fixes... weird. But not. Latest is not always greatest. I got the new cast cause I wanted more space for my apps. So much for progress!

Ok mine works now.  I used to get chopped audio mainly with peacock after 15 min.  It's gone now.  Watched several episodes with no issues.

I had to set audio to PCM.

still incorrectly synced audio on my Sonos beam 2

I'm not even using an external audio system. Just the TV.

Honestly,if Google isn't going to fix this problem, they need to start a buy-back program for these units. $100 for a streaming device that can't keep the audio & video in sync? What a ripoff.

Honestly,I'm heavily invested in Google hardware. WiFi router, Pixel phone, tablet, and buds, Nest Hub, and a Nest Audio speaker, and several Chromecast with Google TV dongles. The Streamer is the only one that has problems. It's really disappointing that Google can't (or won't) fix this.

What a disappointment.

Attempted every fix . Hours of time invested in trying to fix the audio issue. It's definitely the Google TV Streamer Device . Plug in my older Chromecast and no issue . Absolute BS.

They do not care and will not fix it

Did some more testing and it seems that the audio drop out comes at very regularly timing, between 14 min and 30-55s. It does so constantly, unless it's Atmos content. Still no issues with either Dolby digital 5.1 or stereo on old Google Chromecast. I would like Google to confirm they will be fixing this and enable audio passthrough. I already have had to long patience.

Seems like the new update solved the audio issue. Need some more testing to confirm but seems promising!

Ok, audio format issue seems to be solved, but still I get audio drop outs about every 15 minutes unfortunately.

Had to set mine to PCM.  Been no issues for over a month on multiple channels.  Mainly had it with Peacock.  All works fine now.

I've tried this for about 1 week with both of my TVs. It works. I have no more syncing problems.

I moved from Chromecast (worked great) to Google TV streamer. I noticed that any 4k content with HDR+ format will not stream. It'll give me black screen but I can hear the audio. I tried different streaming and players, problem seem to be with 4k HDR+ codec.

I tied all setting combinations on the device and apps with no luck. Any way to fix it?

Got the same problem. Tried to force format but it only resulted in weird behavior of split and inverted screen. Se photo from this thread. No issues with the old Chromecast with Google TV. I really hope they can fix this with a firmware update, otherwise the product is pretty useless especially compared with the old chromecast which works flawless!

I have now identified the problem and a workaround, which isn't convenient. The files that give med black screen and audio is Dolby vision formats. My TV doesn't support this. But when i manually set the format to e.g. HDR10 it plays the movie but with the strange picture cut in half sa mentioned in the above post.

However i downloaded Kodi and in the settings forced to turn off Dolby Vision and then it works. So it seems as Google Streamer tries to play Dolby Vision in the apps even though i turned it off in the Streamers settings. So please try to adress this issue since the Chromcast 4k doesn't have this issue.

Still not fixed, ETA?

There will be no fix. Throw the Google Streamer into the trash. It’s a disaster.

Still having issue this is ridiculous for the price of this device. Any updates?

Major audio and video sync issue with Google streamer have tried all troubleshooting steps but issue still present.

SamCham

I made several phone calls and support chats, letting them lead me through the troubleshooting steps each time. Finally, I asked them for a refund. Instead, they sent a replacement unit. So far it's working well.

My original unit was pre-ordered the day they went on sale. Maybe the early unit had an issue that has been resolved?

Big delay here with two Google TV Streams and two TVs (LG and Panasonic). No matter what Streaming Service (Disney+, Netflix, Amazon Prime, YouTube etc). After a while I need to restart the devices (Google TV Steam) to correct the delay (temporary). Quite disappointing.

Hey! So thinking that you are an admin. There have been several posts about chromecasts having authentication problems tonight and they have all been removed. Including my own. It is clearly and issue that is being sweeped under the rug. Can you answer this?

I, too, would appreciate any and all updates about the Chromecast 2nd gen outage. All of the info I'm getting on this is word of mouth and outside of official channels.
