Remote control do i need it to operate my chrome cast

Hello, if you don't have the remote control for your Chromecast device, then you can use a USB hub where you can connect a USB keyboard or a USB mouse.

Hi @Oldskoolguy 

To add to branches78's advice, Chromecast with Google TV and Google TV Streamer work best when used with the included remote control they come with. 

If you have an older 1st, 2nd, or 3rd gen model or Chromecast Ultra, they don't come with and don't need a remote.
