Set up "Chromecast with Google TV" without remote

I have gotten a Chromecast with Google TV sent to me. I need to set it up from factory reset, but didn't get the remote sent to me, so I can't get past the remote pairing screen. Is there anyway to connect Google Home app on iPhone/Android at this step?

I also tried pairing a Bluetooth mouse from this step by tapping once on the Chromecast device button such that it enters Bluetooth pairing mode. It does find my bluetooth mouse but no matter what I do, so far it fails to complete the pairing with the mouse.

BTW I'm not sure if this device is a "HD" or "4K".

OK from a product design point of view that is a shame.

However I had a Fire TV remote around and discovered that it was possible to pair it with the chromecast during setup. So when chromecast was waiting for the chromecast remote, I clicked the button on the chromecast device to go into bluetooth device setup. From there I held the home button on the FireTV remote for 10+ seconds, and then it was discovered and paired with the chromecast. I could then go on to connect a phone and the Google Home app and continue controlling the chromecast from there with the Google Home app. Still the FireTV remote also works well in the menu of the chromecast/Google TV.

Unfortunately, you can't setup a Chromecast with Google TV without the physical remote.

If you need one, you can order it from Google:

For me, I'm fine. I guess the remote is required, after all. But, it's possible I guess in some cases to use other remotes like a FireTV one. 😂
