Some Audio not working on new TV streamer 4K

After doing extensive testing, some audio formats don’t even work properly at all. Why would Google even give you the option for these formats if they don’t even work and passthrough properly?

TrueHD - Does not work at all. Video just freezes.

DTS-HD and DTS:X: Just plays as DTS core, does not pass through uncompressed at all.

I’m very disappointed with this device. I really hope Google fixes this.

Hi jheisler99,

Thank you for posting here in the community. I apologize for the inconvenience of the audio formats that don't work properly. I understand how frustrating it can be. Let's work together for better options.

In order to customize the sound format, please follow the instructions:

  1. Turn on your Google streaming device, go to All Settings, at the top right of the TV screen.
  2. Select Display & Sound, Advanced sound settings, Surround sound format selection, then Manual.
  3. In the section Supported formats, select the format you want to use.

Remember that not all formats are supported for all TV brands and for specific streaming channels. Your feedback is valuable to us, so it can work to improve the feature on future updates.

Let me know if you have any further questions.

Regards,

Byron

Hi,

I have those turned on in the manual selection. I have an AVR/setup that supports all of those formats and these formats passthrough completely fine on a different Android/Google device that came out in 2019. The problem is this device does not passthrough lossless audio formats like TrueHD, DTS-HD MA and DTS:X. I hope Google can fix this with a future firmware update.

Thanks

I am experiencing the same issue. I have tried various "Advanced Audio Settings," including the "Manual" mode and enabling the formats supported by my receiver.

Any time I try watching content with a TrueHD Atmos audio stream, either the video freezes, or the audio doesn't play. According to my sound system, it briefly outputs the expected Dolby Atmos, I hear a thump, and then there's no audio signal. This repeats every couple seconds.

I've tried different HDMI cables (even though they've all worked fine with my FireTV and other AndroidTV box). I've also tried various players and videos. Both Kodi and Plex experience playback issues if the content has TrueHD Atmos audio.

My setup:

Google TV Streamer > Sony HT-A9 > LG C3

Hi QuantumRand,

Thank you for posting. I'm sorry that you're experiencing troubles with the TrueHD Atmos audio stream. Your input is invaluable to us, so we can address it better in future updates. I just want to confirm if you've already submitted the feedback.

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Byron

Yes, I have submitted my feedback. I hope this issue gets fixed soon. Without lossless audio passthrough, the Google TV Streamer is just a Chromecast for twice the cost.
