Brand new Streamer 4K, setup with the supervisor account, then when trying to "Add a kid" under accounts
- Select Kid
- Entered Kids Password
- Select supervisor account to confirm
- Complete 2 factor authentication to allow kid to log in
- Setup screen goes from "Setting Up Supervision" to "Finalizing" then reprompts for kids password again. After completing this loop 2 times, receive a toast message "Something went wrong"
Streamer 4k is full up to day. All apps on Streamer 4k up to date.
I do receive an email saying the kid signed into the Streamer, but obviously it doesn't on the device and it doesn't show up under Family Link.

I have the exact same problem. I factory reset my Google TV and now when I try to add my child I'm stuck in a similar loop.

I did some more testing. This is failing on Android TV 14 devices. Same issue on a Chromecast TV. I have a Sony TV and Hisense TV on Android TV version 11 and 12 that "Add a Kid" works

Have the same problem. Tried a factory reset. Same thing. Removed all my kids restrictions and content settings. Same thing. It appears this brand new Google device is just broken.

How can we raise more attention for this? Is this forum the only method?

I've asked the Google home community on Reddit. 871,000 members I am sure they are likely to reply faster than google.

I have the same problem. I cannot add a child account to Chromecast with GoogleTV on that exact same loop.
I also factory reset it and nothing changed.

Factory reset and return to store seems like the only winning move. So be it.

I spent hours on this yesterday on the Steamer. Glad it's not just me.

Hey everyone,
Thanks for posting in the community.
I'm sorry to hear you're having trouble adding your child's account to your Google TV Streamer (4K) and Chromecast with Google TV (4K). I can see how frustrating this is, especially since you're getting an email confirming the sign-in, but the account isn't actually being added to the device or in Family Link. I appreciate you letting us know all the troubleshooting steps you've already taken, including checking for updates on the device and apps.
We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused. Our engineering team is aware of the issue and is actively working on a solution.
While we continue to fix this issue, your feedback is valuable. To submit your feedback, please use the Google Home app and follow the instructions provided in this Google Help Center article: Share feedback about Google Nest.
Feel free to keep us posted if you have more questions.
Best regards,
Virna

To be honest, all you need to know is write in the post already. Independent of what we do, after Authentication, it goes back to... Authentication.
It does not matter if it is a new account or an existing one.
I hope your engineers can read.
Maybe ask chatGPT to resume it for them if it's too hard to read through the topic.

Any updates or feedback as to when this issue will be fixed?

Exact same issue for the past few days. Have an open ticket atm.
Tuesday
Same issue here, I’ve tried off and on all evening thinking auth services were down
Tuesday
Same scenario here except I've tried every flavor of device, Google Chrome, Google Chrome HD, Google 4k Streamer, even Onn 4k devices all with the same result... authentication loop. I'll even get the email that the child account was logged in but it's not on the device nor does it show the child account logged into the device in family link. Spoke to Google team and even pointed out this article to them.
Perfect storm of timing as they force kids off youtube kids and straight into youtube, tis the reason I'm trying to add this profie.

I assume this problem is solely related to the transition from YouTube Kids to regular YouTube. For me, it all started when I couldn't get my child's YouTube to work; YouTube kept telling me to ask for a parent's help and to log in to families.youtube.com, even though everything was fine. I thought resetting the device would help, but it didn't. Now I can't even get my child's account on the device at all.
Wednesday
Exactly the same circumstances as mine 🤦🏻♂️
Wednesday
I have the exact same issue, tried creating within family link as full Google accounts and I'm no further forward. It's like it passes Auth, sets up, then needs 1 last thing for Auth but starts the process again and loops.
Also factory reset and happening one 2 devices.. so must be issue Google side
Friday
I also have this persistent and severe bug with adding a supervised child account to a Google TV device. My son is managed via Google Family Link, and I'm unable to add his account to a new Google TV.
This issue is not a user error and persists despite multiple troubleshooting attempts, including a full factory reset.
I am caught in an infinite authentication loop when trying to add a supervised profile.
Platform: Google TV
Account Type: Supervised child account via Google Family Link.
Steps to Reproduce:
On the Google TV device, navigate to Settings > Accounts & Profiles > Add a kid.
Select the child's account from the list.
Enter the child's password for authentication.
Successfully complete parent authorization (MFA).
The screen displays "Authenticating...", "Setting up supervision", and "Finishing..." messages.
The device then immediately redirects back to the child's password entry screen, creating an endless loop.
Standard Sign-in Workaround: I have tried the community-recommended workaround of adding a second, non-supervised account first, then removing it and re-adding the child's account. This did not resolve the issue.
Factory Reset: I performed a full factory reset of the Google TV device. After the reset, I attempted to add the child's account again, but the exact same authentication loop occurred.
This bug is particularly concerning as it prevents a core feature of the Google TV platform—its use as a family-friendly entertainment hub—from functioning. The fact that it persists after a factory reset suggests a deeper systemic issue that is not being cleared by a standard reset.
Any help or information on a working workaround would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hey JorgeFernandez,
At point 6 you mention an endless loop, I find that it asks for the login and authentication three times before failing with a "Something went wrong" message, is that different to you?

It probably happens to everyone just like you are descriping. It's also funny that if you don't bother to enter the password over and over again and just press home button the password screen will pop up again later, for example, while you're watching Netflix
yesterday
I tried again today and got exactly the same error after three sign ins.

I have the same exact thing, also receive 1-2 emails each attempt that my child has logged in to a new device. So, it’s clearly failing to generate whatever type of access token they use to finalize the authentication, because ever. After several emails, no devices are listed in my child’s account.
Thankfully, google’s engineers are “aware” of the issue, and have told us that “rest assured, the engineers are working to resolve it as quickly as possible”…………
Friday
I’m having the exact same issues over here with a Chromecast 4. It started when I tried to login into to the child’s account on YouTube after Google shut down YouTube Kids. Multiple failed attempts. Then removed the child account and could not re add it. Performed a factory reset and the issue persists. After logging in and confirming as a parent, it redirects to the login screen again. If I try to log in, I get a 401 error page. Frustrating.
I had to tell my son to only watch Netflix and trust he does not change to my profile since there is nothing preventing that.
Hope that this issues get prioritized since it seems to be affecting many families.

Still happening here, no updates as of yet!
Saturday
Exact same loop and issue here. Authentication loop.
Saturday
I am having the same issues. Wasted 2 hours resetting it and entering the password way to many times. Should have searched up the issue right away and saved my Saturday afternoon!

Hey GOOGLE! Why isn't this fixed? I work in software development and if my team hadn't pushed a hotfix straight to prod by now my behind would have been fired already. I've just purchased $1,000 worth of google tablets and TVs and streamers and I can't even bloody set them up. Which is making my particularly angry because it's my daughter's 9th birthday today...and I can't set up her Android TV unless it's without content and screen time restrictions. You have billions of dollars and about a thousand developers....sort it out before I get you to hire me to fix your crap!
yesterday
I've just read on another topic about the same problem that they have released a fix on (5th Sept)Friday and it should be rolling out to everyone by next Friday. I'm a bit skeptical about that, but that's what we "have" for now.

Same problem, spent hours last night trying to fix. Big reason I purchased google tv streamer over competition was kids profile and better parent restrictions. If this isn't fixed within days, I am returning and trash talking Google forever. A company the size of Google should be more on top of this bug and have fixed it right away. Got a lot of angry parents who don't have time to troubleshoot a brand new product. We all should be compensated for our time with a monetary discount/coupon.

I am also stuck in the endless loop. I have tries everything. What is the solution

I've had a ticket open for a bit on this and was just told this morning by senior support that they have a fix being pushed out now that should be fully deployed by end of week.

I tested it again a few hours ago and it is still stuffed for me

I put a request in last night. I am in the login loop. They told me a firmware fix would be rolling out but gave no timeframe.
Apple TV, Android 11/12 TVs all worked fine with a supervised profile. Google own TV Streamer is broken, and I wish it was more of a priority for them to fix it.
