Streamer says TrueHD and DTS-HD supported but they're not working

You can see in the attached image that after a recent update, Google Streamer says it supports the lossless audio formats TrueHD and DTS-HD. But if I play any content with these audio formats the audio will not play. To be clear, the same content works fine on my Amazon Fire TV Stick 4K, which also supports these audio formats, so the issue is clearly with the Google Streamer. It appears these formats have been added to the "Enabled" list in Advanced Audio Settings, but they're not actually enabled?

Hi @Juzdu!

Thanks for posting in the community.
I’m sorry for the inconvenience that you are having with the Google TV Streamer after the last update. I can see that you can choose the TrueHD and DTS-HD audio formats, but once testing them, you are not receiving any audio from the TV even though it works with your Fire TV Stick 4K. I would like to know if the HDMI cable that you are using is HDMI 2.1 and Ultra High Speed.

I’ll be waiting for your response.

Regards,

Daniel.

Yes, HDMI 2.1 cables all 'round and eARC on my TV and AVR. That's how it's working via Fire TV Stick 4K. If my cables weren't fast enough wouldn't it fail on both devices? Or does the Streamer need faster HDMI?

Hi @Juzdu!

Thanks for your reply.

As you mentioned, you are already using the required HDMI 2.1 known as Ultra High Speed but still unable to get the features working. Best regards

Thanks @Guarcax, I've filled in that form and submitted it. I looks forward to hearing from someone soon, it would be great if the new Google Streamer could support TrueHD/DTS-HD like so many other streaming devices do these days.

Google has been quiet about the audio pass through support of this device. At this moment it’s not actually compatible. I spent hours today testing different audio formats and most are not actually passed through to the receiver despite being listed as “supported formats” I am kinda disappointed with this device, it was supposed to be an affordable super streamer like the nvidia shield but falls short on the audio codec support. I wouldn’t keep my hopes up about future support as it might be a hardware limitation. We deserve an official statement form google if trueHD can pass through with just software or we need to look elsewhere for a better streaming device.

I hear you, but it is curious that it initially launched without showing TrueHD/DTS-HD...I know because it's the first thing I looked for. It was only after the first update that those formats appeared. Perhaps by mistake? Maybe they went too early, but I own one now so I'm keen to get it working, and am willing to help Google out with some real world testing if needed.
