This is not a network problem. The cables are firmly fixed. The monitor goes into sleep mode for a second or two every minute sometimes, otherwise every couple of minutes. I tried finding a relevant monitor setting, but nothing helped. My monitor is a portable LCPower.

I now think that the problem lies with the (brand new...) HDMI cable I use to connect the Chromecast with the monitor.
