It sounds like you're experiencing issues casting from your laptop after updating to Android 14. The zigzag lines suggest a possible compatibility issue or a bug introduced in the update. Here are some troubleshooting steps to try:

1. Restart Devices

  • Restart your laptop and Chromecast (or TV with Chromecast built-in).

  • Restart your Wi-Fi router to clear any connection issues.

2. Check Chrome Browser & Casting Settings

  • Ensure Chrome is updated to the latest version.

    • Go to Chrome Settings > About Chrome and update if needed.

  • Clear cache & cookies in Chrome:

    • Go to Settings > Privacy and Security > Clear Browsing Data.

  • Try casting a different tab or video to check if the issue is specific to one website.

  • Ensure the casting option is set to "Cast Desktop" if mirroring your entire screen.

3. Check Android 14 & Chromecast Compatibility

  • If you're casting from an Android 14 device, check for pending updates in:

    • Settings > System > Software Update.

  • Ensure your Chromecast firmware is up to date.

    • Open the Google Home app > Tap your Chromecast device > Tap Settings > Check for firmware updates.

4. Try a Different Network

  • If possible, try connecting your laptop and Chromecast to a different Wi-Fi network.

  • Ensure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi frequency (either 2.4GHz or 5GHz).

5. Reset Chromecast

  • If the issue persists, factory reset your Chromecast:

    • Hold the reset button on the Chromecast device for 25 seconds until the LED blinks.

    • Set it up again via the Google Home app.

If the issue remains after these steps, it might be a bug in Android 14 affecting casting. You can report this issue to Google via the Google Home Help Center or Android’s Issue Tracker.

Hi agibanez11,

Thanks for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that you’re unable to cast from your laptop after Android 14 updated. I understand how frustrating it must be to get only zigzag lines. No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • When did the inconvenience start?
  • Are you using an Android or an iPhone to control your Chromecast streaming device?
  • Could you please confirm what the model of your Chromecast streaming device is? Here is a Google help center article that can help you to identify your device: Chromecast and Google TV Streamer specifications.
  • Could you please let me know what version of the Google Home app you are using?
  • Have there been any recent changes to your WiFi network or home environment?
  • Is your Chromecast streaming device linked to a 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz WiFi network?
  • Is the Google Chrome browser updated on your laptop? Here is a Google help center article to help you check for Google Chrome browser updates: Update Google Chrome
  • What is the OS version of your laptop?
  • Have you tried using the Chromecast streaming device on a different TV? Does it show the same behavior?

Thanks for your kind attention; I will be looking forward to hearing from you.

Best regards,

Virna
