Post the global outage of chromecast 2nd gen, now my device keeps restarting frequently

Dear all,

After the resolution to the global outage to the Chromecast 2nd gen, I could set up the Chromecast, but while streaming videos like on YouTube, the device keeps rebooting itself frequently (sometimes in 5mins, sometimes 10mins and so on). Not sure if anyone else is facing this issue? Please share/advise with any resolution you may have.

Regards, Binod

My chromecast still does not work. When I do the factory reset, my TV screen says no input. My phone asks if I see the four digit code on my TV and it doesnt. Ive updated it to .106 (most recent version for IOS) and it still does not work.

Hi @Leopardprint1!

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast device is still not working. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few questions:

  • Which Chromecast model do you have?
  • Do you have the latest version of the Google Home app?
  • Have you tried connecting the Chromecast to a different HDMI port on your TV?
  • Are you using the original power adapter that came with the Chromecast?
  • How are you powering the Chromecast (e.g., directly into a wall outlet, through a USB port on the TV)?
  • Is there any LED light on your Chromecast device?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

I have the 2nd generation Chromecast.
I updated the google home app to version 3.30.106 on iOS I tried all my HDMI ports. It’s plugged into the outlet wall using the original adapter of Chromecast. I tried a different TV and still does not work. The Chromecast light is a white light.
I tried to do a factory reset, rebooted my router, and still nothing. Please note I did try to do a factory reset when Chromecast went down globally on march 9.

Hi @Leopardprint1!

Thank you for your response. Let's work together for a solution.

  1. Check the HDMI connection and make sure it’s fully plugged into the TV’s HDMI port.
  2. Make sure the TV is tuned to the same HDMI input where the streaming device is plugged in.
  3. If possible, check if your TV is on its latest firmware version.

I'd like you to try to reboot your Chromecast (2nd gen). Based on the results, I'll be able to narrow down the issue and give you specific troubleshooters to follow.

  1. Unplug the streaming device from the power source.
  2. Leave it unplugged for one minute.
  3. Plug the device back in.

Once you re-establish power to your Chromecast (2nd gen), can you tell me exactly what is displayed on your TV screen?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.

Best regards,
Geremi

Hi @binodbihary!

Thank you for posting in the community. I'm sorry to hear that your Chromecast (2nd gen) is experiencing frequent restarts while streaming videos. I'm happy to help you!

  • Have you tried connecting the Chromecast to a different HDMI port on your TV?
  • Does the rebooting happen with all streaming apps, or only with YouTube?
  • Could you describe how warm or hot the device is?

Please keep me posted. I'll be waiting for your response.
