When i press the home button on my Google TV streamer, my Onkyo tx-nr646 turns on. I thought it was my older Chromecast with Google TV failing, so I just purchased and installed a new Google TV streamer and having the same issue. I have all the instances of CEC turned off on my TV and the Google TV and receiver. I have tried the streamer plugged into my TV with the sound going back to my TV via the HDMI return cable (didn't work), I also plugged the streamer directly into my Onkyo TX-NR646 (still turned it on). As a side note I tried a Roku Ultra on the same TV and the problem is not happening. I swapped all the HDMI cables (didn't work). I even reset my receiver back to factory defaults (didn't work)
This was not happening 2 weeks ago, and I did not make any changes to my system. There are quite a few people I saw on Reddit that have the same issue, so I know I'm not the only one...
I don't want to return it, but I am losing my mind!

It sounds like this behavior may be related to recent firmware updates or changes in how the Google TV streamer handles HDMI-CEC signals, even when CEC settings appear to be disabled in menus.
Here are a few steps you can try:
Double-check HDMI-CEC settings on all devices
On Google TV: Settings System HDMI CEC ensure all toggles are off.
On your Onkyo TX-NR646: Setup Hardware → HDMI → HDMI Control (RIHD) set to Off.
On your TV: Turn off CEC (varies by brand: Bravia Sync, Anynet , Simplink, etc.).
Change the HDMI input sequence
Connect the Google TV directly to the TV, and use ARC/eARC for audio to the receiver.
Power on devices in a different order — some receivers interpret any HDMI signal change as a “power on” command.
Try disabling “Auto power on” and “Auto power off”
On Google TV: Settings → System → Power & Energy.
On Onkyo: Setup → Hardware → Power Management → disable any auto-on features.
Test with a CEC blocker adapter
These inexpensive HDMI adapters physically block CEC signals. If this resolves the issue, it confirms the cause is unintended CEC communication.
Report to Google TV support
Since you and others have noticed the change recently, this may be due to a software update. You can send feedback directly from your Google TV: Settings → Help & Feedback → Send Feedback.
If the Roku Ultra doesn’t trigger the same behavior, it suggests the issue is isolated to how Google TV is currently handling HDMI signal wake events.

Thank you.
I'm not sure how I could power devices on in a different order, as I just want to use the Google streamer and my LG TV, nothing else. I turn on the TV and switch to the corrected HDMI input.
That being said, I ordered a CEC blocker off Amazon and it should be delivered tomorrow. We'll see how that goes.

Got it sounds like you’re narrowing things down logically.
If the Google TV streamer and your LG TV are the only devices in the chain, then the CEC blocker is a good next troubleshooting step. Since HDMI-CEC can send “power on” commands even if you’ve disabled CEC in menus, a physical blocker will ensure no control signals travel over that HDMI connection.
When you test it:
Power everything fully off and unplug for a minute before inserting the blocker.
Then, plug the TV in first, wait for it to boot, and finally power up the Google TV streamer.
Check if pressing Home on the remote still triggers the Onkyo (it shouldn’t if CEC is fully blocked).
If the issue persists even with a CEC blocker, that would point toward either an IR signal overlap from the remote or a firmware quirk in the streamer/TV combo rather than CEC itself.
thank you
