I have had my second generation chromecast for years but I haven't been able to connect to it for the past year. My phone is connected to the same network as my chromecast is and I have unplugged and plugged it back in and it shows me the starting up page but then I just see photos with the time and whether at the bottom right of my screen. I assumed that if I were seeing this that I would be connected but all of a sudden my phone will not connect to my chromecast. I have tried to "connect a new device" on Google home but it just tells me to plug my chromecast and wait 45 seconds but then I just see the photos and the time again. I've tried casting from Disney plus and Disney tells me to make sure that my phone and chromecast are on the same network but without my chromecast actually being connected to my phone, I can't tell what network it's connected to.

Hi Folks,
Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand that you're experiencing trouble connecting your Chromecast 2nd Gen to your Wi-Fi network using your phone. I appreciate you taking the time to troubleshoot this already. I'm here to help.
To assist you further, please answer the following questions:
Does the situation occur during setup or after setup is complete?
Are you using an Android or an iPhone device to set up your Chromecast?
Is your Google Home app updated?
Is your mobile device updated to the latest version?
What's the LED light status (solid or flashing white)?
What's the distance between the router and the Chromecast device?
What messages does the TV display? Does it display Set me up?
Are you able to find the list of available Wi-Fi networks in the Google Home app?
Please keep me posted.
Regards,
Byron

When I have it plugged into the wall and my TV it just shows photos. I am using android chromecast and my app is up to date along with my phone and it has a yellow light on the device. There is about 10 feet between my router and my device and right after plugging it in it will say Chromecast on the bottom of my screen then it will show the 5 circles in a vertical line that shows it a google device and then pictures but this is after unplugging and plugging it back in again. My TV does not say anything about setting it up and I can't find the wi-fi list on my app.

Hi Courtney98,
Thank you for your prompt reply. I appreciate all the information. Help's here.
Please answer these additional questions:
Were there any recent changes to the network? If so, could you describe the changes made?
Did the Internet Service Provider (ISP) upgrade or make any changes to the router or modem?
Are there any other networking devices on the network aside from the wireless router (example: extender, repeater, or another access point)?
Do they have the correct password to connect to the Wi-Fi network?
Please keep me posted.
Regards,
Byron

Hi ByronP,
No my network is the same network that I have always had so there have been no changes to it and it has not been updated and there have been no changes to it including my network password. Everything is the same as when I got my network 5 years ago.

Hi Courtney98,
Thank you for your prompt response. I appreciate your detailed information.
Based on your answers, please do the following recommendations:
Make sure your Nest Chromecast 2nd Gen is within 20 feet or as close as possible to the mobile device used for setup and equally close to the Wi-Fi router. Close proximity allows for the best Wi-Fi connections possible.
Turn Wi-Fi off and then on.
Make sure to reconnect to the same Wi-Fi network as your Nest Chromecast 2nd Gen and try to set it up again.
Please keep me posted.
Regards,
Byron
