YouTube Messed Up Chromecast

Jakens

I'm not sure why you guys have done this but you remove functionality from the Chromecast and I need it back as soon as possible. Before once a video finished or if I casted my home screen I would get recommendations now when a video ends or if I try to cast my home screen I just get a big black YouTube logo with ready to cast meaning I physically cannot see recommendations. I understand you have done this because you've implemented new ads and for some reason you cannot have these new ads and also have full functionality of Chromecast but I do need the recommendations back.

Hello there,

Same thing started happening with my Chromecast Ultra.

After factory reset, setting up and casting Youtube from either iOS or Chromium the video starts to play.

The interface appears to be all there, being possible to customize captions, setting video quality, video recommendations and being able to exit the video to the Youtube menu.

However, once rebooted/exited from the Youtube app, casting again opens a simplified interface with the Youtube logo and "Ready to cast" under it, no more menu to pick similar videos, and after casting no longer able to change configurations and see recommendations, only play, pause, rewind and forward.

Tried rebooting both the device and the network router, no success.

Hope there is a solution to revert back to the previous menu.

Hi everyone,

Thank you for sharing this with the community. I understand that instead of the usual video recommendations appearing after playback, you're being met with a black screen and the 'Ready to Cast' logo. I’d be happy to provide more information.

We are already aware of this issue and our team is currently investigating it. To help us speed up the resolution, could you please send a report directly from your device? Please follow these two steps:

Step 1: Enable Crash Reports

Before sending feedback, we need to ensure the device is allowed to share the necessary technical data.

  • Open the Google Home app.

  • Tap Favorites (or Devices) and touch and hold the tile for your Nest or Home speaker.

  • Tap Settings (the gear icon, at the top right).

  • Select Recognition & sharing.

  • Turn on Send device usage and crash reports to Google.

Step 2: Send Feedback via Voice

Once the setting above is on, please go to your device and follow these steps to record the report:

  • Say: "Hey Google, send feedback."

  • Wait for the device to respond that it is ready.
Say the following message clearly (please ensure you include the "GHT3" code at the start):

"GHT3 [Last 5 digits of your Case ID] [Your Device Model] Persistent buffering or freezing specifically on YouTube Live streams."

Feel free to keep posting if you have more questions.

Regards,

Gabriela

But they aren't looking at fixing it because they removed the Chromecast icon from the home screen. The whole reason this got messed up was so that they could introduce those new ads where you have to skip them or they just go forever and now with the removal of the Chromecast icon from the home screen I'm assuming they're trying to phase out Chromecast or something?

Hi everyone,

Thank you for reaching out to the community. I understand you're experiencing an issue where video recommendations no longer appear after playback ends. Instead of the usual suggestions, you're seeing a black screen with a 'Ready to Cast' YouTube logo. I'm happy to share some more information on this.

@MauMag I appreciate the troubleshooting you’ve done so far. Please follow any remaining steps below that you haven't tried yet. @Jakens and @Steve0124, please complete all of the following:

  • Uninstall and reinstall the Google Home app.
  • Update the YouTube app.
  • Perform a 2-minute power cycle on your devices (Chromecast and TV).
  • Perform a 2-minute power cycle on your router.
  • Factory reset the Chromecast device.
  • Try using a different phone for the setup.
  • Test casting with a different app to see if the issue persists.

Please note: If this issue only occurs within the YouTube app, the best course of action is to contact YouTube Support. If the problem continues after speaking with them, please reach out to our Technical Support team by clicking the following link: "Contact Us."

Regards,

Gabriela
