Youtube on Chromecast wont play 1080P

Hello,

Lately I have been having quality issues when casting from Chrome on Youtube to my Chromecast 3rd gen. It clearly doesn't play in 1080p like it should, and when I check stats for nerds, it's only playing at 1280x640. If I switch to my computer, it plays at 1440P like it should. (So it's not a network connection issue)

The issue happens when connected to ethernet or wifi. Stats for nerds also shows that my connection speed on the Chromecast is 13000 Kbps, more than enough to play 1080p.

Power cycling the chromecast sometimes helps. Stopping and starting the stream also sometimes helps. But I would like for this to work consistently. The behavior is also the same when casting from web browser or from iOS.

Other apps like Amazon Prime, Hulu, Motor Trend on Demand, all work fine at the expected 1080p resolution.

Happy to answer any questions you may have.

Thanks!

Hey there mattjware,

Welcome to the Chromecast Community Forum! It is interesting that your Chromecast is having some issues with your resolution. If you are able to, would you be able to test your Chromecast on another TV to see if the problem persists? The Chromecast should auto-detect the correct resolution, so I would like to see if maybe your TV is having some kind of HDMI handshake issue.

I look forward to your response, and if you have any other questions or concerns for me, please let me know!

Best regards,
Jeran
