chromecast is turning LG TV on off on off

Hi,

i've been using this fine for >2yrs without issue.  Now for about 2months it turns my (non-smart) TV on off on off.

I have factory reset the googleTV and it is fine for about a minute, then back to cycling the TV on off on off.

I remove the chromecast and as long as the batteries are out of the remote, then the TV is fine.

I am currently using it with a computer monitor.

I read that chromecast uses a wifi signal to communicate with the dongle, which can be similar freq to that of the IR signal that the LG TV uses.  (I do use HDMI-CEC and for years had no need to use the LG TV remote control.  I have searched to disable HDMI-CEC on the TV to no avail and disabling it on googleTV does nothing, it just reverts)

There must have been a firmware update this year that has changed something, can I revert ..or swap for a newer model?

Hi Gortonian,

Thank you for posting in the community. I understand that your Google Chromecast is turning your LG TV on and off. I appreciate the information you shared and the troubleshooting you did. I'm happy to help you!

To help me find the best solution, I'll need to ask you a few question:

  • What kind of Google Chromecast do you have?
  • Have you already used another HDMI cable?
  • Is there any damage to the HDMI port?
  • Have you already connected the Google Chromecast to a different TV?

Keep me posted.

Best regards,

Rusell.
