"No devices found" when I try to cast my Chrome tab from my MacBook to my Chromecast device

Hope someone can help me solve this! My Chrome browser has suddenly lost all ability to detect my Chromecast device. I know the device is fine, because it shows up in my Google Home app, and I'm also able to cast things to it from my phone, like Netflix and YouTube. However, when I click "Cast" from my Chrome browser on my MacBook, it says "No devices found". I've literally tried every troubleshooting suggestion there is, and have discussed it with Google advisors ad nauseam. I've double and triple checked that everything is on the same wifi network, I've rebooted the device, I've done a factory reset on it, I've updated my browser, I've checked the firewall, I've enabled the Chrome Cast "flags", I've restarted my computer, and NOTHING is working. I use the Chromecast for many things, both for work and when I'm entertaining guests. I need this to work again and if it doesn't, then I'd like for Google to replace my Chromecast device.

Hi Rishi26,

Thanks for posting and for being a step ahead of us. We’re sorry for the trouble, and this is not the experience that we wanted you to have. Based on your description, it seems that your Chromecast device is working as intended, as you were able to cast using other devices. This seems to be isolated to your Macbook's (casting) settings or the Chrome browser itself. And since this is a Chromecast 2nd Gen, it is most likely already out of warranty since the manufacturing of this version stopped around 2018.

If your laptop has a VPN setup, I suggest you turn it off in the meantime. You can also give our friends at the Google Chrome Help Community a shout. They may know a particular setting that can be toggled in Chrome://flags, or they may have a workaround for this. Let us know how it goes.

Thanks,

Kimy
