Adding thermostat to my account and removing from old account I can’t access

Hi there,

I purchased a nest thermostat years ago and created an account on the nest app at the time. I never used the app and don’t know what the login info is. The app wasn’t working any more on my phone so I deleted it. 
I recently added carbon monoxide detectors, installed the app again and set up Nest Protect successfully. 

I now want to add the existing thermostat to the new nest app account (I set up a new account as I didn’t have the old account information) but when I try the thermostat said I need to delete the thermostat from the old nest account. I have no way of doing this, I can’t even recall which email I used to set up the old nest account. 

How can I add this existing thermostat to my new nest app account? Can someone get into my old account for me using the QR code on the back of the thermostat so it can be deleted?

Hey Gillian1, 

 

Thanks for reaching out and sorry for the delay. 

 

The easiest route to take is to reset the account connection settings of your Nest thermostat so it will be disassociated from the account that it is currently installed on. Once done, set it up to the same Nest account where you have your Nest Protect. Here's a guide: https://bit.ly/3moipVu

Hi there,

I am taking this measure to prepare for the sake of my home and am leaving the thermostat behind.

After reviewing the steps while staying in front of the thermostat, I have decided to wait until closer to closing date to reset the thermostat. 
If I run into problems, I’ll reach out at that time.

Hi Ryan,

 Thanks so much. I’ve sold my house and I’ve decided to hold off working on the thermostat until close to closing date. At that point I can just reset it and leave it. I have saved the link to the instructions provided to reset and will reach out if I run into problems.

Sorry for not replying sooner. I plan to try resetting the thermostat next week, when my house closes, so the new owners can put themselves in.
