Cannot add household user

I cannot add a household user. Trying to add in Nest says I must add in Home. Trying to add in Home says "Not allowed for this person" even though I'm the admin of the account. I've exited both apps and restarted, no joy.

I understand you're having trouble adding a household member via the Nest app. Even though you’re the account administrator and have tried switching to the Google Home app but you're still getting a "Not allowed for this person" error. I appreciate the troubleshooting steps you’ve taken so far. Don't worry, I’m here to help!

To better isolate the issue, I’d like to ask a few clarifying questions:

  • Have you migrated your Nest account to the Google Home app?
  • When the Nest app redirects you to the Google Home app, are you logged into the same email address on both apps?
  • Have you tried adding a different household to see if the same error occurs?
  • What is the domain of the other email address you are trying to add in the Google Home app (e.g., Gmail, Hotmail, Yahoo, etc.)?

Thanks for the response. I finally did find a search hit on the issue causing my frustration. My family and personal email domain is a google workspace account which apparently is not accommodated for google home accounts. I'm told workspace accounts are assumed to be used exclusively for work. Very frustrating. So I needed to make dummy # accounts that will only be used for google home. Seems like a waste and very inefficient. Oh well. I have it working now.

I am happy to hear that switching to a new Gmail account resolved the issue. When using a Google Workspace account, these types of technical conflicts can happen, but I'm glad you found a solution. If you have any questions, please let me know.
