I get an error when trying to migrate my Nest account to my (primary) Google G-Suite one ?
According to the Nest FAQ I will have to create a new free account to be able to migrate.
It makes no sense...
Are Google working to solve this, and what will I do in the mean time - I would prefer not to create a new dummy account, and migrate to that...

Hey folks,

Thanks for sharing your feedback here.

We hear your frustration and understand change isn’t easy. Our first step as Google Nest was to go beyond the idea of a “smart home,” and to focus instead on creating a “helpful home.” With that comes some growing pains, but our goal is simple: earn and keep your trust by clearly explaining how our products work and how we’ll uphold our commitment to respect your privacy.

G Suite accounts can’t be migrated.

G Suite accounts are accounts set up by businesses or organizations to access different Google business productivity tools. You can’t use a G Suite account because the account data is managed by your organization. Use your personal Google Account or create a Google Account to sign in to the app.

Note: The email address may not appear like a G Suite account since the email extension is not a gmail.com address, but a professional email address that is usually the company’s website domain name.

We recommend reading this entire article for more information,

Will support for gsuite accounts working with nest ever be added? I use a custom domain for my family and would not like to have to creat a separate Gmail email for every member just to use our doorbell and thermostat.

Why not make it a workplace configuration to optionally allow google workspace accounts to use nest products? This is done for every other service google provides. Why not this one to?

I do exactly the same thing.  I use a G-suite account only to have the same custom domain I have had for many years.  There is no company anymore.   Not being able to use that email is really a pain in the ass that rather obviously google does not care about at all.

Hi folks,

Thanks for visiting the Community.

I understand that it would be very convenient to use a Workspace account on your whole Nest ecosystem. However, to set your expectations, there are features that may not work when you used those kind of accounts.

However, you might want to check these steps if this will work on your end.

Instructions for Google Workspace Super Administrators

If you are the Google Workspace Super Administrator, follow these steps:

  1. To turn on or off the service for select groups of users, put their accounts in an organizational unit.
  2. Log into your administrator account. This will open the Google Admin console.
  3. From the Admin console dashboard, go to Apps Additional Google services.
  4. Click Web & app activity to open its settings page.

At the top right of the gray box, click Edit Service "".

(Optional) To turn a service on or off for an organizational unit:

  1. At the left, select the organizational unit.
  2. To change the Service status, select On or Off.
  3. Choose one:
    • If the Service status is set to Inherited and you want to keep the updated setting, even if the parent setting changes, click Override.
    • If the Service status is set to Overridden, either click Inherit to revert to the same setting as its parent, or click Save to keep the new setting, even if the parent setting changes.
Note: Learn more about organizational structure.
  4. Click Apply.

Instructions for Google Workspace users

Once the Google Workspace Super Administrator has turned on Web and app activity using the steps above, Google Workspace users can follow these steps to add an account:

  1. Visit the Activity controls page. You may be asked to sign in to your Google Account.
  2. Tap the switch on or off.
  3. If you turn the switch on, you can check the box next to "Include Chrome history and activity from sites, apps, and devices that use Google services."

Hope this helps.

Best,

Princess

Since Nest Protects won't migrate in any case, not being able to use a workspace account (that is setup only for the domain to be other then gmail.com) is an issue but not the biggest issue.

Hi jrg167,

We'll make sure to treat this as a feedback and let's hope that using other accounts would be available in the future. Meanwhile, we’d like to encourage you to send a feedback for any features that you’re looking forward to using with our Google Nest devices.

Best,
Princess

This is classic.  You can only send feedback using the Google appliance or the Google Home App.   I do not use either.   My feedback is that not supporting the Nest Protects even in the Nest App starting in 2024 will mean that I will replace my Nest Protects with something that is Apple HomeKit compatible and drop Google/Nest out of my home ecosystem entirely.
