Changing owner

My late partner was owner of our Nest account with me as family member. As she has died I want to become the owner as (1) her email account will be disabled soon and (2) the app uses her phone to judge home/away and I can’t change that. How should I proceed?

Hey there AWW,

I'm so sorry to hear about your loss, but I do want to help you out on this.

There's no direct way to change the home owner directly, unfortunately, but you can give yourself access to the account and devices if you'd like. But if you want to be able to remove their access in the future, then you'll need to:

  1. Create a new home
  2. Remove each device from the existing home
  3. Add them to the new home

Please let me know if you have any further questions.

Best regards,

Garrett DS

Eventually managed to get things working as I want (I think). I managed to remove my partner’s phone from home/away assist but had great difficulty adding my own. The problem was using the app on an ipad (for the larger screen) and it turned out that all references to my mobile phone and location services not being activated were actually referring to the ipad. Using my iPhone and strong glasses solved the home/away problem.

I hope that there are no long term problems with leaving her as owner. If there are I can presumably start again from scratch as you suggest. I don’t want to do that as I can’t access the existing thermostat schedule which took quite a bit of setting up and I can’t remember how we did it.
Thanks for getting in touch before locking the thread.
