Custom Gemini voice for each user in the home.

hi,

Does anybody know with Gemini if there’s a way that each user in the home can have their own own custom voice settings? Each user in my house has the Google Home app and when they change the voice in their home settings, it changes voice for everyone in the house. Before with Google Assistant, each user could select their own custom voice.

Just wondering if anyone else is having this issue or tried having different voices for each user in the home.

There are also a few other odd things that I noticed like when I asked for the temperature it gives me the temperature in Celsius, which is what I want, but when my son ask for the temperature, it’s in Fahrenheit. I checked the settings in his Google Home settings, and the temperature is in Celsius for him as well. All users in the home did teach their voice again since upgrading to Gemini just to make sure the devices recognizes their voices.

Hi @Chucky44,

Thank you for contacting the Google Nest Community. It sounds like you want to ensure that every user in the house can customize their own Assistant voice, just like before. I also see that you're having trouble with the weather units specifically; the Assistant gives you the temperature in Celsius but switches to Fahrenheit when your son asks. I’m happy to assist you.

Please follow the steps below to correct the temperature unit settings:

  • Open the Google Home app.
  • Tap the Profile Icon (top right) and ensure you are signed into your own account.
  • Tap Home Settings > Google Assistant (or Gemini for Home voice assistant).
  • Scroll all the way down to the "Your Info" section and tap Weather.
  • Even if "Celsius" is already selected, toggle it to Fahrenheit and then back to Celsius. This "refresh" often forces the device to re-sync your specific profile.
  • On your phone, go to Settings > System > Languages & Input.
  • Look for Regional Preferences.
  • Ensure the Temperature unit is explicitly set to Celsius here.
  • Once the settings above are confirmed, stand near the Google Home device and say, "Hey Google, sync my devices."

If the settings are correct but the response is still wrong, you can try to override the preference using a direct command. While it doesn't always "stick" permanently, it often updates your preference database.

  • Say: "Hey Google, tell me the weather in Celsius."
  • After it responds, immediately follow up with: "Hey Google, always give me the temperature in Celsius."

Feel free to keep posting if you have more questions.

Regards,

Gabriela

It currently doesn't appear that you can change the Gemini voice for each user in the home, like you could with Google Assistant. Hopefully that will be added in the future.

AI Overview
It is not possible to have different voices for different users on the same Google Home/Nest device
. The voice setting for AI on Google Search on a shared device applies to everyone in that specific "home" within the Google Home app, regardless of who is speaking.

Yes, I have the same problem, we used to have four different voice for each person in the household, so I will know if Google Assistant recognize the right person, but now is not working at all, apart from the fact that in the Google home app the preview for each voice sound always the same, also now if anyone changes the voice on their Google Home app it changes for everybody else too... So basically now there is only one voice for everybody. Also now randomly it doesn't recognize who is speaking even if we re-train for our voices over and over. Before Gemini when we used Assistant it recognizes each of our voices perfectly... But it mistook our requests a lot... Now it seem to understand better what we say, but it randomly forget the correct thing to do even if it did it just few requests before, like not being able to show a list of things that few minutes before it did just fine, going to the extent if saying that it cannot do that and it never did, or not being able to tell me where is a store near me where I can by something, like it shows me the store picture, name, address, phone number and business hours, while at the same time saying that it cannot do that, or there are no stores near me of such kind. This Gemini it so bugged... It just good to chit chat about BS without important meaning, because it is not factual nor reliable what so ever. At least Google Assistant was not that smart and and sometime could understand very well but when I did it actually give you actual factual information.
