Google Home App

I don't understand why the Google Home app is switching alone the Home and Away mode even if I'm at home. Do you have an answer regarding this problem? Thanks a lot.

I don't have an answer but I can tell you that lately the Home & Away functions that used to work great for me have recently become very frustrating because Google Home will show that the Home & Away functions were 'triggered' but most of the time the lights are not getting set accordingly. It seems to work about 40% of the time.

Hello All,

I too would like to know the answer to this question because it does this to me every single day. It switches to away and I never left the house.

Hi folks,

That certainly hasn't been easy for you ― let's see what we can do about the Home and Away feature. What are the devices linked to your Google Home app? Are they on a created routine? What are the troubleshooting steps you've done so far? It would help a lot if you could do a sequential reboot first:

  1. Unplug the power cord of your router followed by your Nest speakers then your 3rd party smart devices.
  2. Plug them back in after 3 minutes tops.
  3. Restarting your phone might also help.

Keep us posted.

Best,

Dan

Hello. Regarding my question, I still have some troubles sometimes. For instance, today (5pm Pacific Time), the Google Home app has considered that I was away two times, but I did not move for my house.

Hi mchotard1976,

Apologies for the delayed response. I wanted to ask if you're still experiencing issues with your Home and Away function? Is it through routines? Let's check the history in the Google Home app:

  1. On the home screen, go to the Feed Recent events Go to history, then look for 'Home and Away' events.
  2. Tap on a day to find activity events that caused switching to Home or Away for that day.
  3. Check times that you think that your home switched incorrectly.
    • For example, you might find 'Switched to Home • Phone location 9.35 a.m.', which means that your home automatically switched out of Away because someone arrived with their phone.
  4. Once you know what caused your home to switch incorrectly, you can try to prevent it in the future.
    • For example, you might move a device that senses too much activity, or turn off motion sensing for that device using the app.

Looking forward to your response.

Best,

Dan

Thanks,

Using your instructions:

"On the home screen, go to the Feed, Recent events"

I don't find 'Recent Events' there.

I had a look on what you said but there's no change. The Nest device is still switching to "away" even if our two phone are in house. Still annoying.

Hello everyone,

Thank you for doing the steps. Nest would disable both location options and enable phone location again. Check your address. Also, let’s check the “Personal presence on Home and Away”, follow the steps below:

  1. Open the Google Home app.
  2. Select Presence Sensing > enable “Allow this home to use phone locations.”
  3. Once enabled, the Home app shows all devices allowed to set the home structure’s status.
  4. If there’s an issue with a location status, you can manually change your current location to Home or Away under the name of your phone. This helps improve device presence sensing.

  • Note: If the customer opted out of Presence sensing, the Home or Away option for each device is disabled.

For additional troubleshooting steps, see this guide.

Let me know how it goes.

Best,

Dan
