Google Home iPadOS App Not Able to Load Cameras Properly

Ontario1
Community Member

Just recently, on iPad, the Google Home App does not load my cameras properly. They are all just showing a turning, turning, turning.

On my phones and on the home.google.com website all is fine.

I removed the Google Home App from iPad and added it again. I logged in. Still the same. Like it's trying to set up but not getting anywhere.  I am not sure if it may be an issue with the latest version of the iPadOS Google Home App which was just issued.

Are others having a similar issue since the new version of the Google Home App came out?

Any suggestions about how I might rectify it?

Hi Ontario1,

Thank you for reaching out to our community.

I’m sorry to hear that recently the Google Home App does not load your cameras properly on your iPad. Thank you for sharing with us important details such as the description of what happens when you try to load your cameras on your iPad, but when you load them on your phones and on the Google website, they are loading fine. Thank you for sharing the fixing steps you've taken. This will help us find other options to find the solution. No worries, help is here.

Before I start further troubleshooting, let me ask you a few questions:

  • What model of the cameras do you have?
  • What is the make and model of your iPad?
  • What is the iOS version?
  • What is your internet service provider?
  • When did you first encounter the issue? Does this happen often?

In the meantime, please try the following troubleshooting steps:

  1. Verify the device’s “Date and Time” settings are correct and automatically set:
    • Go to "Settings," then select “General,” then tap on ”Date and Time.”
    • Tap "Set Automatically," then toggle it off and then back on.
    • Make sure that the timezone, date, and time are correct.
  2. Visit the Apple Store, then check if the Google Home app needs to be updated.
  3. Check for software updates on your iPad.
  4. Sign out of your Google account in the Google Home app and sign back in.

Thank you for your time and attention. I look forward to your response.

Best regards,

Virna

Hello @virnab.  Thanks for your support. To answer your questions:

  • What model of the cameras do you have? [I have two Nest Indoor Wired Cameras (both converted to the Google App from the Nest App quite a while ago), One latest Google Nest Cam Wired Camera, One Google Nest Wired 2nd Generation Doorbell.  All behaving the same.]
  • What is the make and model of your iPad?  [Apple iPad 5th Generation MP2H2LL/A]
  • What is the iOS version? [iPadOS 16.7.10]
  • What is your internet service provider? [Bell]
  • When did you first encounter the issue? Does this happen often? [First encountered about a week ago, and has not changed since.]

The Date/Time is set for automatic. And it is correct. Toggling off/on has had no effect.

As indicated, I actually removed the Google Home App from my iPad and then reinstalled it. So it is definitely the latest version. And I definitely had to re-log-in afresh. I have the latest version of iPadOS for my device. And it still having problems. Still always just says Loading, Loading, Loading on all the cameras/doorbell.

Thanks,

Hello. I’m glad I found this thread. I am having the exact same issue but also on my iPhone. I have done all the exact steps you have mentioned, I’ve installed and reinstalled the app. My iPhone is running the latest software IOS 18.3.1, there is no update on the App Store, my date and time is set to automatically (I have switched it on and off)

I have even tried to view my cameras through the safari browser and it says “camera idle” I do not have battery camera's, I have wired cameras - doorbell, floodlight, NEST IQ indoor and outdoor, basic nest cameras.

things really frustrating and I’m paying for my best aware that doesn’t work at the moment.
please keep us posted on a fix

Any update on this? The latest update appears to have made things worse?

Same exact problem here. Have 2 iPad Pro’s. 1 first Gen OS 16,7.x and 1 6th Gen Most current OS 17.x. 6th Gen works fine, 1st Gen not so. Have 2 accounts accessing the home app. Switched 1st Gen to 2nd account and it worked. My Admin account did not.
Finally uninstalled, rebooted, reinstalled. Now neither accounts work. Problem appears to have appeared after the last update and specific to OS 16.7. Fact, setup won’t even complete after reinstall.

Further to above, now after 2nd reinstall, Home app stalls at setting precise location. Tapping “Next” has no effect.

Dear Google,

If it is happening to us who have taken the time to post here, you can be sure that it is happening to many others. Hopefully whatever bug that was introduced during the recent update to the App can be investigated by Google technical staff and resolved for all users quickly.  All this reinforces the need for investing in additional quality control prior to issuing updates. Google has an important reputation to maintain.  Ensuring functionality of Google Apps prior to issuing an update is critical.

As an additional piece of information to aid Google techs: On iPad, if you click on any camera while it is on the screen that Thomas showed above, it changes to a near full screen box with a circling icon made up of the Google colours. After a while of watching that, if you try to X out of it, you get the screen below, asking if you want to exit Set Up. That is not right.

I don’t even get the above screen. The app just locks up and I have to force close it.

Same bug

Have there been any fixes for this one yet? Same issue over here still.

This is definitely a continuing issue. We hope Google will initiate a fix. It is affecting many people using the Google Home App with iPadOS. (iPhone App and Google Home website are all functioning fine.) Thanks.

Exact same issue here but mine is on both my iPad and iPhone. Frustrating beyond words

Well… App update received today. To version 3.30.102. All appears fixed, at for me on iOS 16.7x on iPad Pro 1st generation.

Mines updated but still no fix 😭 it’s so frustrating when you spend so much money

Glad it worked for @Thomas_Skoropad . But for me, despite my iPad's Google Home App update to 3.30.102 today and with iPadOS 16.7.10, it is still not fixed. (Even after re-booting.) I agree with @UrbanPrincess14 that this is frustrating for users. Google Engineering - Please Help!

Update: SUCCESS!

As noted, yesterday, my iPad's Google Home App was updated to version 3.30.102. (iPad runs iPadOS 16.7.10). However, despite the update, I continued to get the little loading circles on my cameras and on each page.

This morning, (given that the update seemed to repair things for @Thomas_Skoropad ) I did the following on my iPad, and now my cameras are loading fine on the Google Home App on my iPad:

- Remove the Google Home App.

- Turn off and Turn on iPad.

- Load Google Home App from App Store.

- Open Google Home App, sign-in, give access to location, equipment, microphone, bluetooth, etc (standard settings).

The cameras now all loaded on the iPad Google Home App. I can also give feedback, open Help, etc. All the things that were just loading circles before seem to now work again.

Possibly other users (like @UrbanPrincess14 ) can try the above additional steps and get things going again on their devices. It is unfortunate that the update that removed this capability initially was implemented, but it is good that things now look to be working again (for some of us, at least). It would be good for Google Engineering to review what the issue was and apply it to "lessons learned" for future.

Thanks,

Update to the steps taken on my iPad that seemed to work to make Google Home App version 3.30.102 work:

I did the following on my iPad, and now my cameras are loading fine on the Google Home App on my iPad:

- Remove the Google Home App.

- Turn off and Turn on iPad.

- Load Google Home App from App Store.

- TURN OFF AND TURN ON IPAD <-- missed including this step in my above note.

- Open Google Home App, sign-in, give access to location, equipment, microphone, bluetooth, etc (standard settings).

But now, if you try to look at the full screen of one of the several cameras, it works for a moment and then not, and if you go back to the camera selection screen, they are all just loading. Similarly, if you go to another Home (we have two places with cameras), that just gives loading circles for the cameras there.

Back to just looking at the web version at home.google.com.

Google Engineering, please Help (again).

Thanks,

You're right. I got the same issue. Will try and follow the steps and reboot to see if that fixes it.

Ok yeah... Tried these steps. Setup still got stuck on a next screen. And it has similar issues with loading event histories etc. only the previews load now on the first launch. That's about it. Very laggy overall.

Same issue here! If I turn my phone sideways to view the larger picture it just is a grey screen with a white spinning circle. I can hear the sounds of the camera for a bit but then it just freezes and nothing. I’m so beyond frustrated with Google over this disaster. Ready to throw in the towel.

Ok... I just updated and that was enough on my iPad to fix it. No reboots needed.

While it seems their last update fixed the constant freezing and crashing of the app I still cannot view live videos in the larger format like others mentioned and I cannot add devices. The two updates ago it removed all my temperature sensors and the app cannot find them to add them back.

Back to the drawing board. Todays update to 3,39.106 and we’re back to spinning circles.
Come on Google!

Yes - same here.

So… our 1st Gen iPad Pro’s OS was updated to 16.7.11 a couple of days ago.
Google Home is still broken.
Strange thing is… my Primary (Admin) account won’t work, yet my wife’s secondary account does.
Both accounts work fine on our 6th gen iPad Pro with OS 17.x.

Come on Google, are you listening?

This is getting beyond ridiculous. I’m paying for nest aware and can’t even view my videos live or any historical footage. The app has always been awful but tolerable. I think I’m done with Google. Switching to Arlo or Wyze.

I am having the exact same issue of the main admin account not being able to view live feeds.  It will load for a second or two play but then it will give me the spinning wheel of death and the app will seem to crash.  My wife's account works fine though and she can view the live feed without issue.  I have tried deleting the app and reinstalling but no luck at resolving things.  Super frustrating when we're halfway across the world on vacation and trying to keep tabs on our house while we're away and I can't even see what's going on.  Google needs to do something about this!

Today’s app update to 3.32.104 and STILL broken.
Primary admin account refuses to work, yet secondary account does.
Yet Google refuses to answer or acknowledge this thread.

I agree with @Thomas_Skoropad . The new version has the same issue. This is unacceptable for a company as advanced as Google to not be able to solve this fundamental problem.
I will also add -- not specifically related, but another continuing general problem -- Of late (last several updates) I am finding that the Google Doorbell Wired (latest edition) is often not able to remember that I should not be notified of people events in Zone 1 (established to block notifications for people walking across on the sidewalk). It had been working fine, but now I often get Doorbell "person seen" notifications - but it is just someone walking by on the sidewalk (in Zone 1, which is to not have notifications for people). It seems that it is better for several months, then not for a while. Rebooting, removing the zone and adding it back, etc doesn't fix it. It seems to just go away on its own, and then it comes back again after some time. Another thing for the Please Fix It List.  Thanks,

I’ve noticed all my Google devices the last couple months just do whatever TF they want. Temp sensors all dropped from the thermostats and can’t be repaired, google home changed its voice and the family bells I have set up only go off 10% of the time and when they do there is either no sound with them or it is just a blip of sound. I could go on and on about the issues. Mind boggling that Google can’t figure any of this out.

I assume Nest isn't making enough money - so they outsourced everything to teams or let AI handle the rest.. The result is this clusterf...

Can confirm - the latest version is still broken. How do we get in touch with Google support regarding this? @virnab

Mine is doing this again on both iPad and iPhone.  Cannot get to camera settings either.

Same issue for me with an iPad Pro 9.7 Inch, MLMV2LL/A, running iOS 16.7.11.
