Starting yesterday, google home app doesn’t show options for changing colour of smart bulbs. Asking nest hub or mini to change colour says bulb doesn’t support this. Neat display also offers no option. Anyone else?

My issue is resolved. Looks like Google Fixed it. If you are still having issues, go to:
SELECT WORKS WITH GOOGLE
LONG PRESS YOUR LIGHT APP
GIVE IT A FEW MINUTES

Hi, a couple of us on the thread have seen a resolution to the problem. Apparently Google has fixed it. If you still have an issue, on your Google home screen spress +.
Then press works with google
Then long press your lighting app
Then press reconnect.
Give it a few minutes, then test.

Facing the same issue

Having this issue too. Just talked with chat support and they said multiple people are reporting this with multiple devices. They said they are working on it and to my sure to device is online so that it can receive an over the air update when they resolve it

to Make* sure

I'm so glad they've realised a lot of people are reporting the problem, and that they're not assuming it's user error or something that can be fixed by wasting time setting things up again, as is so often the case. Let us know if you notice a fix.

I am facing the same issue on my smart bulbs using linked account with Smart Life app. Hope Google Home can resolve this ASAP. Anyone knows the solution, kindly share it with us.

Same issue here. I’m also having issues with the nest saying “actually this device doesn’t support this functionality” start happening around the same time. Anyone else having this issue simultaneously?
10-23-2022 02:10 PM
Same issue. Colour change just flat out isn’t supported for my bulbs….however my light strip works just fine. Explain that Google!

I'm seeing several people post resolutions for the problem here. I just wanted to jump in and see if those who are still seeing troubles have been able to try the suggestions from joshnthayer and mred. If you've given those a try and still have problems, let me know.

Have tried and still doesn't work. 1/4 of my lights in my bedroom won't work via voice. Oddly, does work via the Home app manually though.

We want to ensure you are good to go, and everything is working properly. We received an update from our team that changing lights color should be resolved now. If you still have trouble with it, try relinking your smart light account then use the command "OK Google, sync my devices". Rebooting your devices might help too.

Having same problem. As an example, four of the exact same bulbs with same firmware etc. Two can change colors and two say that "this device does not support this functionality." Also have been unable to add or edit certain devices in routines. Both problems started about the same time.

This problem just started for me. All the Google Home routines that I've been using for a couple of years just started saying 'actually, foo light doesn't support this functionality' or 'actually, several lights don't support this functionality'.
Actually, Google's QA is apparently lacking and they broke something in a recent update. And as is evident in this Reddit post, this new bug is a problem across all kinds of hardware, and users hate error messages that start with 'actually'.
I really hope they address this quickly, and don't start telling users to do factory resets and other useless and time-consuming things, as they do so often. I've invested heavily in Google Home, Nest and other products, and it's pretty good when it works, but really frustrating when it doesn't… and that's unfortunately been happening more and more lately.

Hi lately when I ask google to change the color of my lights it responds “that functionality is not supported”. It worked fine before today! Can anyone help me fix this please or advise?
10-23-2022 04:31 AM
Seems like some sort of update broke this feature for tuya based bulbs and lights, you aren't alone in having this problem
10-23-2022 06:41 AM
This issue also exists with Feit Color lights too. I noticed it yesterday.
I updated the Google home, deleted and reinstalled, nothing helped.

Update: Reverted back to an older version of Google Home from March 2022 and that did not resolve the issue. So, it's not the app itself, it's something else.
Don't waste time deleting, re-installing, and become frustrated... just wait for the fix 🤞

Thx, I was about to try this here.

Seems in the last 2 days I lost the ability to change smart bulb lights colour through the Google home app or voice assistance, this wasn't an issue before.
10-23-2022 01:19 AM
I can't change color in Google Home App, but my bardi lamp support RGB light, can anyone help me to solve that?
10-23-2022 02:03 AM
Hi, same problem here. Colour option for all my bulbs has just disappeared for no reason. Can only turn them on / off or alter the brightness, colour has to be controlled by the Smart Life or Tuya Smart Apps.
Interestingly this seems to have been a problem for users a few years back. Software upgrades, was there one recently?
10-23-2022 02:25 AM
This has been happening again, on the r/googlehome subreddit some poor dude had 55 lights all stop color changing functions through google, seems to be tuya based products that are being affected
10-23-2022 02:29 AM
Yes, 17 lights here, although 2 are randomly able to be colour controlled. It's infuriating as you could understand (maybe) if ALL of them stopped working, however 2 bulbs can be coloured controlled. All the same make and type so it makes zero sense!
Would appear to be a software / update issue as stuff doesn't just stop working for no reason.
10-23-2022 04:29 AM - edited 10-23-2022 04:29 AM
Aye, my fiet and signify based bulbs both still have color change functions in google home, but all my tuya based lights are getting the "unfortunately" message back from assistant
10-26-2022 08:00 AM
Same here, just this week 23 bulbs stopped working properly. On/off and brightness are fine but Google Home can't control the color. I can only control the color in the SmartLife app.
Soooo, when do we get a comment from a Google tech? Workaround? Estimated fix time? Beuller??

Our team is already aware of this and currently investigating this issue. Since this is the same discussion, we'll move this conversation to the main thread and we'll continue to update it as soon as we have some news to share.

Just passing to report the same issue.
I have around 6 smart bulbs here connected throught smart life.
Tryed changing the app, pairing them again and nothing.
I can only assume its Google Home thats ignoring they CAN change colour.
This is a hard issue.
10-25-2022 01:31 AM
Same here using TCP Smart bulbs with the TCP Smart app linked to Google - on Sunday the button for changing the colours disappeared from the Google Home app and Google Assistant started saying it's not supported.
10-25-2022 04:07 AM
I'm also having this same issue. I use several different brands of smart bulb - Phillips, Sylvania, and a slew of cheap SmartLife-controlled bulbs. GHome can no longer change any of them, even after extensive troubleshooting.
10-23-2022 08:23 AM
I have Day Better Wi Fi lights that connect to home via Tuya app. Changing light color and brightness has worked for months, and suddenly Google is telling me that functionality isn't available. Lights still change color with the Tuya app. Was there an update? Very frustrating.
10-23-2022 08:38 AM
Same here. I have 27 lights at two locations (home and boat). On Friday 26 lights from 4 different vendors stopped showing the color button BUT ONE LIGHT THAT WAS NOT PLUGGED IN AT THE TIME STILL HAS THE COLOR BUTTON. so this ISSUE was created by Google and it appears to have been sent over the wire. One other call out. My son who is an invited guest made a change to the name of a light in his room. That may be a coincidence, but that is now the ONLY light of 27 that still has the COLOR BUTTON
10-23-2022 08:45 AM
Thanks for the reply. At least it isn't just me.
10-23-2022 09:09 AM
Do you have invited guests on your home account? This may be a coincidence, but my son updated an LED strip light in his room (he relocated the light ans changed the name). Of 27 lights his light is now the only light in the home that has a color button
10-23-2022 08:50 AM
Same issue here, it stopped working today morning. All my 20+ lights stopped changing colors using google home. Is this a bug?
10-23-2022 08:58 AM
Mine quit working today as well. Works with Alexa, and smart life, and tuya. Just not google.
10-23-2022 09:03 AM
Same here. I have 27 lights and 26 of them no longer have the "color button". Odd that just one light still works. That is in my sons room and apparently it was unplugged on 10/21/2022. This one light must have a clue! Also my home has two invited guests. My son and wife. The one light still has the color button was modified by my son on 10/21/2022
