Google home no longer allows changing of light colour

Starting yesterday, google home app doesn’t show options for changing colour of smart bulbs. Asking nest hub or mini to change colour says bulb doesn’t support this. Neat display also offers no option. Anyone else?

My issue is resolved. Looks like Google Fixed it. If you are still having issues, go to:

GOOGLE HOME

HIT +

SELECT WORKS WITH GOOGLE

LONG PRESS YOUR LIGHT APP

RECONNECT

 

GIVE IT A FEW MINUTES

Hi, a couple of us on the thread have seen a resolution to the problem. Apparently Google has fixed it. If you still have an issue, on your Google home screen spress +.

Then press works with google

Then long press your lighting app

Then press reconnect.

Give it a few minutes, then test.

Same for me as well.  No color option completely out of the blue.  Google clearly pushed a broken update down because a quick glance at Reddit shows TONS of people are having this problem at exactly the same time.

I have been troubleshooting this on and off for a few days. I have over 150 smart devices in my home. Each room has smart color lights, and a handful of lights in each room get the “actually x lights don’t support that functionality”,  Many people are reporting this problem across multiple light brands. The main app for the lights work fine, it’s just when controlling with google home that the color functionality is broken. So it’s clearly an issue with google home, most likely in their data records or, network paths or threads that are blocking or mislabeling the functionality of the lights. Most likely a software or network update, or configuration change that created this impact. Google has been working with enabling “Matter” and additional capabilities lately. So .. HEY GOOGLE, ROLL BACK YOUR CHANGES !!!!

Now Google assistant can't correctly set brightness. It was working this morning. It seems like whatever Google did they put in a progressively degrading feature. We seem to be losing functionality by the hour.

Was there an update?  I've been using this combination of lights for two plus years and two separate locations at home and on my boat never had an issue now all of them are missing the color button except for one light and it's changed all yesterday so what's going on I'm literally about to throw all the stuff in the garbage

Having the same issue since 21 of October 

I'm also having this problem and there's a couple other posts about it. I'm not sure how wide spread it is but it's definitely something google did

I am having the exact same problem with all of my lights. What did you do Google? Some kind of update has messed up everybody's lights. Please fix this problem because you have rendered our lights useless.

Tekin smart bulbs tied through the tuya app. 

In tuya i can change the color fine,  but google assistant doesn't provide the button or acknowledge via voice on most of my lights suddenly.  Oddly, two in a room of four lights have the option. Have 54 lights total, its been fine until i tried changing them today. 

Tried force closing assistant and tuya,  rebooting phone,  no luck.  Probably some noob dev at Google didn't test their code before deploying. 

Better open a Support ticket with Google. The more reports they get,  the sooner they will fix it. 

I reached out to Google support.  They said they are aware of the issue and are working on deploying a fix.

Having the same problem... My lights works with Smart Life App, but now I can't change the color with Google Home and Google Assistant.

I've been using Google Home for over a year, including over 30 devices linked to Smart Life (Including 20+ lightbulbs).  These bulbs all worked perfectly in Google Home.... until yesterday, that is.
 
Today, none of my bulbs are changing colour in Google Home.  GH can control the brightness and turn the bulbs off and on BUT they no longer even show colour as an option in the app.  Google Home voice response now states that these bulbs - which used to work just fine -  :don't support that functionality".  
 
It's the same result regardless of whether the bulb is GU10, E14 or E27 and regardless of which lighting fixture it's in.  It's the same result whether using voice activation commands or the GH app on my phone.
 
It's the same result after removing and readding the devices and deleting and re-installing the apps.
 
It appears as though Smart Life may have recently updated its user interface for changing bulb colours within its own app.  Coincidence?  Or perhaps not, given the timing of the Smart Life interface update and the breakage of its link with Google Home,
 
Regardless of whether Smart Life may have done something to cause the breakage or it's Google Home who's dropped the ball, this problem needs to be fixed ASAP!  
 
Anyone know what's going on and how to fix it (or when it will be fixed by GH/SL)?

I have experienced the same but, in my case, with smart downrights and, curiously, not with all of them. I have tried even to unlink Smarl Life from Google Home and to link it again, but the result is the same. What's happening with that? Thanks

Same for me.  Linking and unlinking Smart Life and Google Home doesn't fix the issue.  Nor does removing the device and re-adding it to Smart Life.  In addition to posting in this community, I've also contacted tech support at SL who are currently looking into it.  Will post again if/as/when I have more insights from their investigation.

Same issue here, also with Smart Life lightbulbs.  I can still use the SL app to change colors, but Google Home will now only turn them on and off.

I sent a bunch of screenshots to Smart Life’s tech support team yesterday afternoon. They’re looking into it. No ETA given on when I’ll hear back.

I think my phone update last night (Google Pixel 4a) caused my light color options to disappear. How do I figure out what's going on? Is this on my end? Do I let somebody know?

 

The light buttons used to have a colors option screen where you could select from a pallete, but that was missing this morning so my Google home got confused with one of my routines and couldn't set my lights to white.

I moved my Google Mesh from one modem to another. Same thing happened.  Lost all color options for only the smart bulbs.  The smart strip lights still have the option.   

Same. Smart Life App works, but Google Home is missing the colour swatch and voice control tells me the device does not support this functionality. It was working yesterday.

Same here. I don't think this is the first time this is happening. I could see same bug reported couple of times in 2020 and 2019. Hope they fix it permanently this time...

I just read an update on the Reddit posts that Google is Aware of the issue and is working on  a fix. ETA is this week. 

 

This is a wide spread issue across multiple bulbs and apps.  It's not you, its Google.

It's fixed. Just reconnect the lights app account and should be all set, back in business working again. 🤘
